RC Driving Style
hi yall. I'm new to this forum and also to the hobby. i did alot of research and found serpent 710 to be the one i want. whats the cheapest place to get the kit other than ebay. also, what other parts would i need to get the car running. thanks for the help.

Have you built an RC nitro car before? do you know how much you are about to spend? Have you done enough reserch to know that you want to build a Serpent first, thats really not considered a beginers kit by any means!

Other parts:
Engine
Servos
Radio
reciver
tuned pipe
starter box(chassis will only accept non pull engine)
fuel
glo plugs
This list will go on and on for the rest of your life, but that should get ya started!

i've built one kit before. never ran it, just built it cuz my friend had an extra kit he didnt wanna build. money here is not really an issue. it may take some time to build this kit, but i'd rather start out with the best than having to constantly upgrade.

If you have built one kit before, then you are not new to the hobby, please tell us you have built before so we can better help you!

but i'd rather start out with the best than having to constantly upgrade.

Now that we know that you are not new to the hobby, you should know that no matter what you build, you are constantly upgrading!

Why do you want to build the serpent? Since money is not a issue, what other car kits have you looked at as options?
Is this a car you are going to keep yourself? are you going to race? Sorry! we gotta ask if were gonna try and help!

This site has tons of Serpent stuff, most of it cheaper than most places,, good luck!

i've looked at r40, MTX-3, impulse, and the 710. i've read reviews and serpent seems to be the best in the game. since impulse is outdated, i chose the 710. i havent thought about racing it at a track, but i may once i learn how to control the car.

The 710 is a race car, not one that you would want to bash in parking lots with. if i had that car, it would never see a parking lot. that is just my personal opinion. if you plan on bashing alot, you wont notice all the adjustments, and tuning capabilities that make the 710 so nice. again, this is JMHO.

Buying a Serpant and not racing it is like buying a 4 wheel truck when you only need 2 wheel drive. A total waste in my opinion. Perhaps you want to re-evaluate your decision and decide if you are going to race or just bash. Just my 2 cents. :)

You might want to look at the huge MTX-3 thread that is going. Both FastEddy and HumboltBlazer are in the process of building the kit and breaking in their engines. They might be able to provide you with some more information on the MTX-3.

thank you all for your opinion. i'll try to read some more posts and re-evaluate my decision. thanks :)

Thanks ND, I was trying to get to that point!, another thing to consider is that the 710 has to be set up first, you can't learn how to drive on a 710, before you can set it up, right! This car has alot of unique set up capabilities, you could actually risk wrecking the car while trying to learn how to drive it, if its not set up right from the start, unless I was racing, I wouldnt touch this kit, I had the same idea before because I wanted a good building challenge, nitroaddict talked me out of it, I went with the ntc3 team kit and I am a happy basher!! But hey! to each his own!

thanks!

one quick question. how does the MTX-3 compare with 710? i read most of the posts on the link above, and the price for the two kits seems to be pretty close. if 710 is better, wouldnt it be better just to get 710 instead of MTX-3?

I am not sure which is better but i whould suggest you get a nitro TC3.That is the perfect car for bashing and it can win any race out there with the right driver. If you got the Serpent 710you would need a whole bunch of setup gauges and a tire truer. You would have to now how to set up toe, camber, caster, droop, tweak.caster,
ect.You whould also have to know how each change afects handaling so the 710 is way to much car for you.It is not ment for a parking lot basher it is ment for the very expirenced racer.
If you had a nitro TC3 and a person whith the same eperince as you had a 710 you would be able to beat him around the track. You would not crash as much as him.His car would be twichy and have to much power for him to control.
So i should say Choose Wisely.
