Alright, Like a Dumb Arse I overheated my motor and seized it up pretty good. Its the 5.9 in my XL. Now I need another motor. My local hobby shop says the 5.9's arn't as good as the 4.6 motor is. They have a sweet 4.6 SS motor for sale. Should I put the 4.6 SS motor in the XL?, would this engine power the truck well?. I don't race, just bash around. Or should I just re-build this engine or buy a new 5.9?

i definatly wouldn't get another 5.9 from what i've HEARD(no personal experiance)..if i were gettign another motor for it though i would look at the new LRP .30

Re: reply

well it just depends on wht kind of cash you have to spend you will be able to rebuild the 5.9 for a heck of alot cheaper than a compleat motor. if it were me i would just rebuild, if you are just bashing dont see the point in spending lots of money when you will prob. brake it agian.

I've had difficulty with the 5.9 motor but I think I have mine figure out.

The engine leaks like a sive, through the back plate, carb, pinch bolt and especially the mid range needle. The mid rand needle is brass and the part is screws in to is aluminium. When cold, the needle and its o-ring are tight but once the engine heats up you can see the fuel litterally flowing out of this area in particular. I honestly don't know why they combine two different metals with different expansion rates, even with a good o-ring seal it's going to fail eventually.

so what I'm saying is, you don't have to find another engine per say. The 5.9 is a decent price and if you seal it up really good, you should have a power house. I finally got all these little areas sealed and the engine performs superbly now.

I Love my 5.9! 5 gallons now through it and it still rips. Motor has never been over 240. the only prob I had was the mid range needle kept backing out and then it would flame out. Found an after market o ring and prob solved. Been a great motor for me. I think most guys are running them to lean to be having all these problems. You can't tune the motor like the manual says, you will overheat the motor.
