hey guys i got my savage today and i have ran about 5 tanks through it and now i'd like to really open it up but i can't seem to hit second gear. following the manual i have leaned both the high and low out about a 1/4 trun and i have turned the clutch counterclockwise 1/2 a turn to try to get second gear to kick in but no such luck, what else can i do? remeber this is my first rc and about as mechanically inclined as a monkey so please explain in detail. Thanks

Okay, I dont own a Savage-yet- but I happen to know a few things about it. First of all, there are two holes in the gearbox where your hex driver can be fit. The right hex nut is used for adjusting the 2spd. The other one is what holds the gears in place. DO NOT, i reapeat, DO NOT loosen the first one. The second nut can be turned CCW to engage the 2spd earlier and CW to engage the 2spd later. Good luck.

yes i have done this and turned it a 1/2 trun ccw but still nothing, should i turn it more?

I guess, Do you know waht your looking or listening for? Just make sure your turning the right screw. Also, try warming up your engine before you start tuning the 2spd. Sometimes It doesn't shift untill the engine is ready.

well my buddy has a terra crusher and i know when his shifts into second, i know mine definately does not, i have followed the instrustions exactly in the manual as to which screw to turn which way, i was just hoiping someone esle had this problem , i always let it warm befoe really cranking on it. :doc:

let me tell you the best way to get 2nd is put it on blocks lean it out 1/ 8 to 1/4 on hsn this is after break in ,hold temp below 230 turn screw on gear box like stated by SHK tell you find what you like. then drive the truck to see if you need to turn gear screw ccw. or cw. you will here and see the diff.

ok well in speed wis should it be as fast as the terra crusher faster or slower, becasue i can dust him off the line but when he shifts to second he roasts me.

buy a picco .26 and you will not have any prob. smoking him:jk:
i have no idea if it will beat it.

The Savage shouldnt lose to a Run-Of-The-Mill TC. Please dont tell me that...:hehe:
If you change the spur gear, making it more aggressive, will help your top speed or acceleration, top speed I think. Just race your friend with the TC offroad and youll whoop him.(I hope your a good driver)

The mixture settings have nothing to do with shifting. It is done by RPM,s. Sure it must be tuned just to reach high RPM,s but thats a given. Drive it on the street and go real slow, it shifts so smooth you might not hear it.

With the 21bb, your shift screw should be around 3-4 turns out. Those are the round about settings that I was using and it shifted great everytime.

I believe the stock setting for the 2-speed is 4 turns out. With the .21 BB I was using 4 1/4 turns and was having a better shift point. Varying on weather conditions, I found that the .21 BB didn't put out enough revs until it was at 245 and up. Most of the time running at 265 and up to 285.
