I am sealing the engine in my Savage X F4.6 should I seal the cooling head? There are 2 copper or brass washers between the engine block and the cooling head, and I was thinking about sealing that, any suggestions??

I've never heard of anyone sealing that area. carb and backplate is all ill seal and thats only if it gives me trouble.

I'm not sure why honesly but its my understanding from everything I've read that you shouldn not try to seal this area and to just let the head shim do its job.......?

2 reasons not to seal this area.

1. Copper is a very soft malleable metal. It will compress and form it's own seal.
2. You don't want to risk a piece of your rtv coming loose in the cylinder. Although soft, it can damage the piston or sleeve.

+1 racer1966, you dont want to seal the cooling head, no need..just the back plate and carb, sometimes i do the HSN body, around the washers, if I'm having trouble, but usually just the carb and back plate

Thanks for ths info. guys...I will not seal the cooling head, however I did seal the HSN & LSN on the carb, and the carb body to the block, and the backing plate.
