I was lookin into buying a comp rig over the past few weeks and decided to go with a scaler instead. I can post pics but they all look the same. I'm amazed by the amount of speed these things have and so far its a fun rig. Already ordered the aluminum links, beadlock wheels, and a few odds and ends for the new rig.

I was wondering about the brake settings as the book that came with the rig doesn't have much info at all. My issue is when I "crawl" and want to use the brake the rig instantly hits reverse. Is it normal for it to not really brake? Its a new version with the 2.4 and Castle/Axial electronics. any help is appreciated

It should have a programmable drag brake that engages when you let off, but to get the most out of that esc I believe you can use a castle link programmer to turn up the drag brake, but on crawlers, scalers the esc's are set to go from forward to reverse with no pause, and the drag brake engages when you let off the throttle.

Another ? - I have the same problem with my AX10. The upper Y-link ball has already popped out once on the new rig and I have the "real" 4 link servoplate on order. with the upper link - what size should I order? I've been beating the ax10 to the point where I barely hit a bump and it pops out. I dont want this to happen to the new rig too so I'm doing both of them. Same size rod for both??

Well I went thru the parts bag and found a 4 link for the frontend and installed it. That said I would still like to know the length of the uppers for when I do upgrade to the aluminum links.

Curious from those who have 1 as well. I've ordered quite a bit for this rig already:
STRC bent lower links- I'm having difficulty finding uppers. Anyone have an idea?
STRC servo/4 link mounts
Proline 1.9 beadlocks
RC4WD rock crusher tires
Aluminum rock sliders (I dont like how the plastics bend and flex)
Aluminum front and rear bumpers w/winch mounts.

I've decided to leave the electronics for now as they perform quite well and I have no complaints. The servo is already making a little noise so I may upgrade to a savox but will wait on that too.

A new body (They are pricey :()
Just about every scale accessory I can think of (cooler/beer, keg, gun, fishing pole, propane, sleeping bags, tarp, jack, shovel, flashlight, bungee cords, etc..

once I get the body painted I'll get all the accessories mounted.

The biggest thing right now is the upper links. I really need to know the sizes I should be getting or a possible link would be greatly appreciated.....

I don't know of any bent upper links. i used the Axial lowers on mine.

I don't know the length off hand but most of my links are custom made out of 5/16" Delrin rod, all you need is a 3mm x .5 tap and the appropriate drill bit, and a micrometer and I use a small tubing cutter for cutting it to length.

You use the Axial lower links for the upper links? I dont think you could mount bent in the upper anyway but I thought the upper and lower links were different lengths? I also will be trying to run bent lowers. Can I do that with straight uppers?

That will be my next step if I can't find anything for the uppers. My LHS has the aluminum tubing and we have the tap at work. Getting them black is easy too seeing as to how we anodize for a living :).

So I got home today and started assembling the lower links and they actually hit and bind with the uppers. Is the SCX only supposed to use the straight links? I bought the 30 degree offset bent links

Went to the LHS yesterday and picked up some 3/16 aluminum tubing and a boatload of traxxas ballends and ended up fabbing my own upper and lower links along with the steering components. All in all an easy task with the right tools and it looks killer!!

Had some time to burn today so I grabbed a body and all the scale accessories:

I can't say I like drinkin the stuff but it makes for some pretty good looks. Due to get in my roofrack tomorrow so i can mount that and change it around a bit but all in all happy with the outcome

With your custom lowers and ladders, did you maintain the 12.3" WB or longer?

Either way looks great. Oh and if your running Axials new version of their esc (AE-2) its an auto drag when let off as drag and regular brake, then reverse.

IMO I like the auto drag

I customed the uppers and lowers and still maintained the stock wheelbase. It does have the AE-2 and it is VERY touchy. I was told I can fieldlink it and change the dragbrake but I've been doin so many other things to this rig I havent had time to play/adjust it yet. Also gotta work on lowering the battery tray. Stock it has an awful high CG but than again I like tackling things well beyond its typical capabilities too
