thanks for the input. on my motor issues. however i had the throttle closed with my hand but it still kept screaming. I'm wondering about the air leak idea. I've read that some drivers seal their carb connection at the engine as well as the back plate. other than these two areas where else could there be an air leak.
fuel tank? back pressure tube was in the pipe.

Are you certain that the carb was closed? I mean, just because the throttle arm is in a closed postion doesn't necessarily mean that the carb is actually closed. For a rotary carb, the arm could be loose from the barrel and actually not be closing anything....or the thing could have been reversed, you were holding it in what you thought was the closed position but in actuality were holding it in the open position. On a slide carb, this is a little harder to screw up, but it is still possible.

It sounds like you have a rotory carb with the lever that rotates for the throttle. If this is the case the lever probably did move on the shaft and is not actually closing the throttle. In which case you need to loosen the lock nut and rotate the throttle to the closed position and retighten in this position. First you should back out the idle screw to be sure the throotle barrel closes all the way. I only assume this because you said you closed it by hand. If you had covered the top of the carb by hand it would have starved for air and shut down no matter if you have an air leak or not (not enough air could leak to allow it to run or it would never run just so).

i agree with both larry and skymaxx. i am not positive but if the carbarator is closed all the way i am pretty sure that it will not take off screaming like that. and i doubt that there is an airleak big enough to do that.

Just because the little lever is in the closed position doesn't mean that it isnt slipping and the actual air inlet to the carb is still wide open. Remove the air cleaner, and look into the carb to see that it is actually closed.
