Hey everyone!, I been not in to hobby grade rc car's/trucks for a few years now. I did pick up a cheap evader electric last year but sold it as it was not fun lol. So i have a lot of free time as i am not working no more and i think i want to get back into hobby grade nitro Truck's. I am limited on funds, i picked up a nitro starter kit, batteries, extra glow plugs and 20 percent fuel. i just need my Rtr, i was going to get a redcat shockwave as the price was right. I have a few bucks more and right now tower has a end of the year sale and i am 90% sold on getting a sc10gt. I did some research and my issue was can i use it on some grass and road and not worry about it getting air born? I really like the price and the .18 and i seen some guys go with the os.18 and the front end lifts up like crazy. I am 90% sold on this if anyone thinks it is a bad truck or might not handle grass/dirt/roads's to well tell me why and i might look at something in my price range. 2-250.00

The SC10GT is nothing more than an RC10GT2 with short course tires, bumpers & body. The GT2 in its own right is an excellent truck. Adding the short course bits enhances durability, at a slight cost to performance (more weight and more air resistance).

The AE .18x engine in the RTR model is no slouch; it won't run with an OS .18 TZ, but is plenty powerful for the 5 lb truck.

The SC10GT will be leaps and bounds better than anything Redcat offers. It is a race bred truck, and it performs like one.

Do be aware, though, that it is a 2WD truck. If you're looking for 4WD nitro in a quality brand, you're going to be looking at something like the Losi TenSCT or OFNA SCRT10. The only 4WD nitro Associated ever offered beside the monster trucks was the SC8GT, and they are discontinued (very nice trucks, though!)

I asked about the 0s.18 in another thread. I had this same motor for my monster truck that had more weight so i am sure it will get going. I know this is built based on the gt2 and that is a 2wd stadium truck . My lhs has one left but there out the door price is to much. I would buy it at 300 tops but i can not pay close to 350 for it no way. I understand a 4wd might be best for my area upstate ny but i can handle the the power and option for off road tires is out there. I just want to make sure it is a nice truck and how about some off road use? I was thinking a local part there is a lot of grass a nice parking lot for people to park in and there is a play ground that is big. I might not go there do to the little ones might get hit that would be very bad. I really am sold on this i just think some mods/upgrades should be done to keep it under control. oh Yea would gold shock springs help with keeping the front under control when the back end kicks out? i want to be able to get in and out of loss tracking .

Remember that OS has two .18s

There is the CV-R, which won't be much of a change over the stock .18x

Then there is the TZ, which is a whole 'nother ball game. The .18 TZ puts out more power than a lot of big blocks.

Used to be a bigger price discrepancy between them, but they're actually pretty close right now.

I'm not really sure what you're worried about when you say "airborne". These trucks are meant to jump. If you simply mean keeping it under control, that's going to be a product of choosing the correct tires and suspension bits, and learning how to drive it. 2WD is definitely more challenging, especially when they have a lot of power. But it's fun. Generally speaking, I have more fun with my 2WD critters than the 4x4s, and they're a lot simpler, hence lighter weight and fewer parts to break.

The Tz was the one i was thinking about i seen some of the front ends get lifted off the ground from all that power . I think the Airborne question is how it will handle well on a bumpy surface and how it will just handle all around. I think i know what i have to do i agree, tires and shocks will be something i will look in to.

The stock Associated tires are some of the better RTR tires out there, but still pretty much crap in my not-so-humble opinion.

For an excellent all-around tire, look at the Proline Calibers. And don't think that a soft compound necessarily wears faster; it is often quite the opposite with RC tires. Soft compounds perform better on harder surfaces, such as packed dirt, clay and pavement.

As for shocks, you'll just have to play with them. If it seems too stiff, lighten the springs. Too soft, get stiffer ones. Too bouncy or doesn't absorb the small bumps gracefully, the oil and/or shock pistons need to be changed. The spacers will change ride height, but not spring rate.

Also, I don't know what kind of pricing you've found, but a factory refurb straight from AE may be the best you'll do. $250, and I think they're still offering free shipping on orders over $30

I have six GTs and a GT2, I love the Associated nitro trucks. Simple, robust, and excellent performers.

new in box 253.00 to my door and i have some spare parts and i am getting a hump pack/charger that should add 30.00 more. I placed a order for 2 more hot glow plugs yesterday along with a nitro starter kit, and i got a lot of batteries and i got a fuel filter and a gallon of 20 percent that i got a few days ago. I been doing my home work and i been using my down time to learn and try to see what is out there. I was looking at a hpi firestorm 2.4 but everyone goes threw clutches and then i found this truck after seeing what is in my price range. I came across a few 1/10 scale buggies and those traxxas money pit's.

I have a update, i have all my starting gear i just need my truck lol. It should be here in a few day's. I really can't wait to get this out there. I would like to see more people who have this or are thinking about getting one post in this thread. I know 2 WD trucks seam to be dead NOW. I see all these Sc electrics that are 4 wd and i tell ya i know so many people who have got out of nitro and to be honest i have seen a electric jato beat my nitro jato by a good 8 or more feet. We did a 80 foot dash and i lost everytime, with that being said it takes some one who has a love for this. It can be a pain but a well tune motor is way more fun then those electric pos imo. Imo go to towerhobbies.com get one there like 290.00 and they all ways have 20 or 30.00 off and some times free shipping. I got the end of the year deal. 35.00 OFF and free shipping , i mean i paid 253.99 for my truck you can not beat that.

I got this thing broke in and ready to go, i am waiting on a receiver pack as i put the one i had in my T- maxx. I have it ready and it drove great and i am happy with how it turned out. Lots of power, stock servos are nice and this should be a nice fun truck in the spring when i hit the local park. If you have some money and want something different try one of these. There nice but big hand guys you will be pissed lol. Battery box is a nightmare just get a receiver pack. You can use a hump pack as there is room for one. The fuel tank has to go you get around 6 min run time. There is a bigger tank that is a drop in for it i think its 150cc but its like 22.00 bucks or so. I would upgrade the tank and a receiver pack and the front shocks are a tad stiff but some people like that. The rear comes lose and no lie these will wheelie and there is no bar so watch out for that. Put a os in there and i swear you will tear your rear end up. It will wheelie like crazy .

Where all the SC10GT GUYS? These can be had for under 300.00 and there not bad at all.

Its a great truck, basically a GT2. I may grab one next summer if I decide to finally put the GT up on the shelf.

There aren't all that many. I love 2WD nitro, but I'm not interested in adding a pound to the chassis, trying to get power to the ground on skinnier tires and putting a body on that acts like a parachute. I'll stick with stadium trucks. If I came into an SC10GT, I'd take the SCT stuff off and make it a GT2 again.

Also, I hate to play grammar cop, but I've been biting my tongue a long time on this, can't take it anymore:

there not bad at all.

There is a place; "Go on over there"

Their is a pronoun, used as an attributive adjective; "Someone dropped their wallet"

They're is a contraction of they are; "They're not bad at all" ;)

I kinda do it know a day's out of habit to spell it wrong. Now need to go as far as to go google and copy and paste for me. Kinda d-bagish Ya know??? lol:first_place:

I think the 2 WD is just about dead. I grew up on it and sure i could of got a slash or some 4wd Sc. I liked the idea of these only thing its so tight to work on. I have big hands and i feel like i might brake something. The battery box is a nightmare other then that it is not bad with a hump pack. The stock steering servo is pretty good to be honest. I might pick up a gt2, i have a nice list of what i am getting. Seams like ever 2-3 days i am buying a new nitro, motors, micro t and parts etc. I started with the idea for a cheapo redcat buggy then who knows what i am up to and plan to spend. I just did a very quick round about of what i spend and will spend to get back in to the hobby. I think close to like 2 grand, some mid rang rc with parts and all the stuff i need to keep my self happy and with these cold east coast days i can play inside. Lhs has one Gt2 300.00 i might try for 290.00 out the door kinda like hey here is 290.00 cash will you take it. Money talks ya know the rest lol. thanks bro

That's not C&P, my friend; those are my words. I have more self respect than that.

My intent was not to insult, and you would do well to check your grammar. It is all we have on a bulletin board consisting of written words, and people will judge you by it. If you desire respect and to be taken seriously, it is prudent to speak intelligibly.

Capitalization, appropriate use of punctuation, proper syntax and not mixing up phonetically similar words really does make a difference in how you are perceived by others. An obvious typo is one thing, and insignificant for casual purposes. But using the wrong their/there/they're, two/to/too, than/then and so on can completely change the meaning of your statement. At best, it looks backwoods.

Please accept this as the constructive criticism that it is. Definitely not meant as an insult :)

lol oh ok kid.

lol oh ok kid.

I believe you mean to say "lol. Oh, ok, kid." Of course, it would follow better without the "oh".

As well, we're all kids here, genius. Regardless of numerical age, we are here talking about the toy cars that we play with. The difference between men and boys is merely the price of their toys.

Of course, adults know how to accept polite, constructive criticism. They don't get all defensive and make pitiful attempts to belittle the person offering said wisdom, or make false accusations of plagiarism. Those are tactics most of us stopped using after high school.
