not-so-local hobbyshop run to fargo on wednesday during wifey's pamperd chef party. got a brandy new pink X4.6 (i hate pink, WTH were they thinking?)anyway over to buddies on way home, stormed, lost a few extra parts that blew away.
started breakin yesterday, beast started right up and is very loud WOW. got through the 3 tanks on a block and 1 circle tank. this thing is amazing, no sputtering, no traxxas random engine shut off, the tuning seems like its gonna be a breeze
is this truck gonna be as durable as it looks to be? i live up on the flatlands , so trees, legs, cars, flowerbeds, cats, dogs, and the occasional slough go are gonna be my only obstacles.what are the weak point of the truck so i can get a few parts as i live 100m either way from a hobyshop.guy i bought from at hobbyshop had a box full of parts for sale, snagged em up for $60, but really dont know whats useable or not. are aluminum arms a good investement or stick with stockers (they look pretty beefy compared to tmax stockers)

any info i can get would be a great help..thanks

Well. as far as a-arms i personally stick to stockers, as opposed to aluminum, plastic seems to be more forgiving, as far as any parts your L.H.S doesn't have, theres allways people on e-bay dismantling new savages so you can get reasonable prices on new parts. Plus don't forget Tower Hobbies, I've used them for a few years now with no complaints. I hope this helps and congrats on the new savage, their great trucks.

aluminum arms are a good investment (i have a set and they're pretty beefy) however the plastics will do just fine but, id get a few extra cuz u willl break one eventually! lol also, like mackdaddy said online is the way to go........i buy nearly everything off ebay (besides fuel) ebay prices are muchhhh cheaper than typical hobby stores
good luck with the truck!

I have the same issue you do.. my nearest hobby shop is over 45 minutes away. With gas prices the way they are I found it is much cheaper to just wait until i have enough for a few pieces, and get them from amain, tower, or ebay.

But for an example, my Savage XL just lost a tie rod during a run on some grass and shot right into a tree at a fast rate of speed, I bent the metal part of a front skid plate, bent a bumper screw, busted a lower A-Arm, and bent a hinge pin. for $30 on ebay I got a full set of A-arms(with hinge pins), 8 tie rods, whole front skid and bumper.

As far as what to upgrade... I would run everything semi stock for a while and see what gos first. but the basic things to get are Spur gears, different clutch bells, a center skid plate(so rocks dont get into your brakes and etc), a good roll bar/cage, new Servos, I also keep a couple backup sets of bearings for the clutch bell assembly, extra tie rods, and put washers at the bottom so they dont come off(or get the HPI or integy Rear tie rod eliminators.) Once you have all this then worry about other upgrades, IMO the ones listed above are the most important, and the easiest.

When it comes to aluminum parts, its up to you, my previous savage was 80% aluminum, the only problem I really had from aluminum is the added weight, and when you add a stronger piece in a location that was the weaker point, you change how it will break.

got an aluminum tmaxx on the shelf now. not goin down that road again. this truck seems way more sturdy than that truck so i think i will invest in a few spare parts IE arms knuckles, skids, turnbuckles, pinion set, differential, spur and brake parts, hingepins and driveshafts/cups. i figgure that the outer parts of the truck have more of a chance of breakage than inner. can't imagine much breaks inside those chassis plates
