rebuilding my alloy diffs on my savage i want to use diff oil do the standard seals hold the diff oil in or do i need to change the seals the diff oil I'm useing is hpi racing 1000 60cc silicone diff oil

the diffs in a savage are sealed. fill the cup up to just over the cross bars and your good.

yes all nitro savage trans are interchangeable, in fact i dont think anything changed from .21 to .25. they changed it with the savage X and the easy open case.

And all of the early trans guts will work in the X's easy-open case too. I did that upgrade about six months back so it would be easier to adjust my three speed. The two case halves are about $12-$16 ands my three speed and reverse module dropped right in. A nice upgrade for early Savys, especially if you have a three speed to adjust...

hey there mustang.

Have you changed to savage X diff cases? If you have could you tell me what other parts were required to convert it? Other than the cases of course. LOL Bulkheads, shock towers ETC ETC. I've been after doing this to my 25 for a while now.

Cheers pal.

is it best to use diff oil or grease

Diff oil is a must. There are many weights of diff oil that you use to suit your driving style. Whether your bashing, racing, scaling etc etc. You can grease the outer bevels after you have installed them back in the cases though. You may find if you used grease in the diffs themselves this could lock them.

I'm going to use hpi 1000 60 cc diff oil will that be ok .

IMO 1000 is to light. if your racing go with something like 4k in the front and 8k in the rear. if your bashing i loved 10k in both because it gave me more of a locked feeling without actually locking the diff.

diff oil

just orderd traxxos 10k silicon diff oil hope this will be ok as now I'm stuck with a bottle of hpi 1000 60cc diff oil thanks every one for your help

you wont use nearly all of the 60cc of it. If the 10k is to thick you can always use the 1k to thin it down a bit, until you get it the way you like it.

just dont be suprised when you get the diff cup assembled and you can't spin the outdrives very easy. that is why you put the oil in there, the make the diff stiffer.

Ofna, sorry for the late reply, work was crazy this week...

I have not gone to the BP diffs yet. I did upgrade to the four-bevel gear setup (came with the S-25 as a free upgrade in the box IIRC) and I've not had a problem. Shimmed them and put silicone fluid in at the time. Of course I don't do insane jumps off my roof either and it has the stock 4.1 in it too.

As for the swap, from what I've read they are a direct swap, but the control arm hinge pin retainer needs to be swapped out too (I'm pretty sure). Now if you do change out the bulks OR the towers, I think you have to do both at the same time. You might find a complete front or rear assembly on eBay with all the parts you need to make it easier too.
