ok, so i think i have enough parts to put a savage Xl together with a lrp .32. is the 3 spped tranny necessary, or can i use a 2 speed with no issues? also, am i gonna need anything special to mate that lrp crank to a hpi tranny?

You can use the two-speed, but the three-speed will supply more low-end torque and top-end speed.

Nothing should be different mounting up that engine, flywheel and clutch assembly is all you need, make sure your mesh is good.

hmmm lowend torque may be nice i guess, but i dont need speed. my x already does backflips on demand with a 2 speed so i will stick with what i got. have 2 savage x trannies in pieces.
thanks for info alien

XL will be different though. All the weight is transferred forward. Essentially, the XL is the X with about two inches added behind the engine.

You'll probably want the wider suspension too. That adds to the handling as well.

yea, already looking into that. am i gonna have to change all 4 differential to axle driveshafts? thats a spendy ordeal.
was looking at a earlier post and someone mentioned some adapters from another vehicle, but i didnt really understand the drilling out part.
i really need to stay off ebay lol...i have parts for 3 trucks and i already have 4 trucks.

That was me that mentioned the adapters that require drilling. If you're not comfortable with it, don't do it.

I was going to say that was my thread lol.

The XL width conversion is gonna be expensive thats why alien mentioned the Associated parts.

Just finished my xl length conversion though and I noticed theres a few inches of empty space behind the engine and was curious how that will effect handling.

It's cheap, but you need a vice, otherwise you can screw it up. I have one wheel with a slight wobble, I may have to put a new axle on.

The empty space won't affect it, the fact that all of the weight is shift forward will. Mainly it will affect wheelies. I geared down a tooth when I converted my Flux, so it'll still flip on command.

I see well I won't flip on my lid as much so that is good. The handling should improve with all the weight being pushed more on top of the turning wheels.

eh i have a drill press so drilling wouldnt be a problem. just didnt really understand what to drill. guess imma have to do further research on that. is way cheaper and looks like a nicer operation than the stock Xl configuration

You have to drill the hole in the axle for the pin, and you have to bore out the new 17mm adapter to fit the axle. You'll want numbered drill bits for precision. It's definitely a cheaper option.

ok now I'm clear on what ya drill. is there enough meat left on the axle to be sturdy after ya get done drilling that hole? also, can i use 1 of many sets of X driveshafts with this mod?

i have the suspension components and differentials, 2 speed tranny w/49t spur and dual brakepads,batery/rx box, no rx/tx yet
have coming xl conversion(frames,center driveshafts,and motor plate)and lrp 32.
am fairly unclear on the outer drive shafts yet so have not ordered

There's still some meat, as long as you don't drill too much. That's why I suggested number drill bit. I drilled mine so that it was so tight I needed to clamp down to get the pins in.

The X dogbones will work fine, the rear driveshaft will need to be changed because the TVPs are longer in the rear.

alrighty, well been researching this for a while and have decided to do wheel extender for the x drivetrain rather than buy a whole new xl drivetrain . guess nobody will know but me
