I got my first nitro oh 2 months ago.A savage xl. I was at a local track over the weekend and i have been having problems with i killin. It seems to bee tuned well, pulls wheelys and has plenty top end, not too much smoke, not too lean either. I wont keep running though, it will kill when i let off of the throtle or while idleing (when motor is hot). Do i have a leak or whats the deal? Also when its cold if i hit the throtle it will die it has to idle a while and warm up. i dont know whats going on?

Oh and once i get it started and warmed up, and i dies it is hard to get it started again.

You expect it to rip as soon as you start it? They never run the same cold as they do hot. You need to get it up to temp before you can do a proper tune on it. Warming it up to get it there is completely normal.

i dont expect it to rip, but it shouldnt die as soon as i give it a little throttle should it? Even if it cold?

Every engine I ever tuned was a bit 'stubborn' cold, and needed to idle and putter around for a minute. However, once up to temp they all ran well without dying out for any reason other than running out of fuel.

thanks for the respond, i appreciate all the help i can get. Ok so it needs to warm up all the way, but it seems to be killing on me at random times mostly when I've accelerated an let of the throttle or when i just tap the throttle, what is your opinion or what info do you need from me to better understand what is happening?

When the engine is up to a good running temp, you will need to set the LSN till you get a good idle and a good take off without a delay. Watch your temps since setting the LSN too lean will cause it to overheat.
When you're getting a good take off up to half throttle, then you adjust the HSN for WOT.

I have the idle valve set between 1-2 mm, the low speed is set so it is very responsive, it will pull the front end of the ground easily, and the high speed is set so it hit 3rd gear and rev's up well,it is suprizingly fast. It seems to be killing when I'm letting off of the throttle. The truck was running well with no probs and then started to develop this problem, it was only killing every once in a while and know i can't get it to run for more than 10 mins without killin, maybe i should just retune it? It has dropped like 20 degrees outside from 80's to 60'scould that have affected the way the truck runs and if so how do i adjust the carb to the temp?

Since the colder air is denser, you'll need to richen the HSN to balance the mix. The engine will also run cooler, just due to the ambient temp, so don't expect to see the same performance you get on warmer days.
You might also consider going to a cooler plug.

Ok, i retuned and its running great now. TY TY:)The colder air temps greatly affected the hsn.
