Savage XL engine problems?

I have been reading that the savage xl has motor problems my dad has one he hasent had it that long but no problems sofar nock on wood. can anyone tell me what kind of problems they are having. just wanting some insite.

the only problem that I heard people have with k5.9 engines is that they are hard to tune and don't keep the tune very well and because of that people have troubles with starting them...
other then that they are great engines.

1.5 gallons in the skirting on my piston broke free of the piston running metal throughout the entire motor.

I've had no real issues at all. After switching to a Cen 7.7 pipe and uniflow mod the motor really came alive as well. I use the truck for bashing and run it hard at the local tracks and it keeps moving along.
