Savage XL - Break In

I always put a drop of after run oil on the needle seals, just to make sure they don't rip or distort. If they look fine, and feel like they are threading in slightly tight, you should be fine. You'll know for sure when you start your engine. If the hsn o-ring is leaking, fuel will actually leak from the banjo fitting. If the lsn is leaking, tuning adjustments will be erratic, and the engine will most likely over heat. A dab of wheel bearing grease on the needle o-rings is suitable as well. Just a tiny dab though.

This is great information...you guys are great!!! I can't wait to get this beast started!! Happy RC'ing ya'll

Read the sticky at the top of the nitro forum as well. You can't research too much or drive the information into your skull enough.:)

I ripped off the engine and sealed it last night...only thing is i did not have the green stuff for the screws...everything else was sealed with the Permatex stuff.

Will leaving the screws unsealed be a problem? Is there an alternative to the green stuff?

Thanks

awsome. Before I sealed my K5.9 the throttle response was meh. In pulling the engine out I could see fuel leaks around the backplate and carb area. Dirt sticks to fuel/oil so if you notice wet looking dirt anywhere on the engine inspect it to see if it's a leak. Could just be spilt fuel, if you whipe it off it shouldn't come back.

after sealing the XL was popping wheelies. I was able to better hone the tune because of the seal and better, more consistent, performance came as a result. Hopefully you experience the same results. Having an engine that holds a tune and responds to HSN and LSN adjustments in a predictable manner makes having Nitro SOOOOOO much more fun.

this guy here has a good tutorial. Not that you need it now, but it never hurts.
