Hi I'm new to the forum. I have a 5.9 that ran alright last year just got time this year to pull it out took a little to get running but when it did I it ran great for two tanks went to start it today and it won't fire doesn't even act like it wants to fire.

Pre-heat the daylights out of it with the wifes fancy hair dryer, and get that thing as warm as you can. Then prime it by blowing into the pressure line; prime until it reaches the carb, and maybe a tiny bit more. You may have to blip the throttle or feather it a bit - be sure you don't flood it. If you do, make sure you pull the plug and drain out the excess fuel rather than cranking on it and beating on the OWB.

I'm looking for a new rig. I was looking at a couple. Is the savage xl a good truck. I heard
Bad things about the k5.9. What are your thoughts. Feedback appreciated.

Did you seal the engine? i had issues with starting and noticed that it was leaking around the carb. But unfortunately when i pulled the carb off i damaged a gasket so waiting for replacement

Still not running. Had to replace mid range needle it was leaking. Replaced glow plug old one was fine but was at store anyway. Tried new fuel. There seems to be a lot of fuel coming out of exhaust. Any ideas

Clear the flood and try again

Hook the fuel line from the carb back to the tank where the exhaust line hooks up. Leave the exhaust line hanging from the pipe.
Pull the glow plug and turn the truck upside down.
Turn the engine over several times to expel the excess fuel.
Replace the plug and see if it fires.
Make sure you have a new or freshly charged battery for the glow plug. It should fire, if only for a couple seconds.
Re-hook the fuel lines and blow into the line from the pipe to tank. This will force fuel to the carb from the tank. Stop 1-2 seconds after the fuel hits the carb. Heat up the engine and try again.
Once you get it going, keep in mind it's probably cold outside. You'll need to richen the high speed needle a good bit to keep it from running lean.
