Aside form the obvious (one being a kit and having a bigger engine), what are the differences between the two Savages?

Also, Traxxas advertises the Revo 3.3 as being able to do 45mph, and X SS is advertised as being able to do 45mph, but how fast is the X? Can the Savage X keep up with the Revo 3.3 in a straight line?

Thanks *first post, w00t!*

from what i have seen, the revo will take out the savage in a straight line. (assuming they are both stock)

i know the X SS diffs come with hardened outputs and are also pre-shimmed. Coming pre-shimmed eliminates all of the slop in the ring and pinion making a much tighter mesh and an overall MUCH stronger differential. I shredded a S25 diff with the 4 spyder mod and i have a few gallons on these X SS diffs and have had no problems.

If you are mechanically inclined then you should have no problems assembling the X SS. If you feel comfortable doing it, i would go for the SS.

the savage isn't meant for racing as much as the revo. the savage is a basher whereas the revo could be a basher or a racer. the savage doesn't have the handling the revo has and i dont think the revo is quite as tough as the savage, but it is still tough.

the x ss comes with better parts than the x. it has more metal parts, if you go to the hpi website, it should tell you the difference.

They are both pretty much the same except for the above stated improvments.
that being the case get the X SS and drop in a larger engine or a race .21 and gear up for top end and get yourself a 3 shoe aluminum clutch and you should have no problems keeping up and passing the revo in stock form.

the savage is built to be a basher it can be made into a resonable racer if thats what you want, the revo is built to race you can bash with it but it will never be as durable as the savage no matter what you do to it.

get the x ss. i have it and love it. u really can't compare the savage to the revo since they were essentially designed to do different things. the savage is a basher that with more money can be a good racer and the revo is meant for racing and light to mild bashing anything hardcore and it'll fall to pieces. i got an sts .30 in mine and blow past 3.3 revo's like they arent even there.

Yeah, I've really been leaning towards the SS. I would really enjoy building it myself, its just the cost that kind of gets to me. Especially since the steering servo seems like it will be a huge PITA. I notice that the manual recommends a 160oz/in steering servo, which seems just insane (especially considering the one they include with the savage x is "only" 90 oz/in).

I realize that the Revo is more suited to racing, its just that when I get my Savage (as I plan to) I don't want to be left in the dust by my friends Revo. Especially since we will probably be bashing together lots.

you wont be left in the dust. you can get a good futaba torque servo for under 100.

when it comes to sterring servos 160 oz of torque is a good starting point if you can get more then do so, the savage in stock form is almost 13 pounds you need all the power you can get to throw those big tires around and keep them pointed in the right direction. considering that the first upgrade that most make to the savage are the engine and steering servo. 90oz will turn the truck 160Oz will turn it with authority and keep it turning.

:goodpost: the revo can take a whopping of a beating but the savage can take more.

Well, I did it, I bought the Savage X SS. Should be here Thursday or Friday...I'm psyched!
