I was wondering how savages are compared to maxx's. I had a t-maxx 2.5 and had nothhing nut trouble with it. I want to know how the savages are. Any help would be great.

Savage would be the MT King.
No other MT can compete for the price and there aftermarket support. The only truck with better aftermarket support would be the T-Maxx. It is IMHO the toughest truck out right now. Some don't like its handling but no trucks perfect, and it makes up for with its durability. I love mine as well as 99% of other Savage owners. And I agree the XL looks awesome..

tmaxx are tough the savage is nice but its a pain to work on because of the chassis setup and the fuel tank design sucks

Fuel tank yes just hard to work on?..Not really. I can have any thing out in under 10 min.
And it doesn't break to often so that doesn't really matter. And when it does break you probably deserved it..LMAO

Go to the HPI Savage, forum, and click on the thread that says My savage project, suggestions welcome or something like that. I have a T-Maxx and I'm just finishing up the Savage X SS build, and I must say that with my experience the Savage is much better quality and MUCH MUCH stronger than the T-Maxx. It's also a big block truck so it handle's a lot of power A LOT better. There are more parts for the T-Maxx, but the Savage is a close second and there's so much support for it as well that it doesn't really make a difference. I like my T-Maxx, but it's just not built as well as the Savage. The Savage is stronger out of the box that my T-Maxx is with a few hundred dollars in hop ups added to increase durability.

NOTE: i do not own a t-max!! but, i think the savage is alot tougher then the t-max, my savage out bashes my revo on most days and i think the revo is tougher then the t-max, i have no problems toolin on the savage. none at all. i find it easer then the revo, but i think the chasis set up on the t-max is alittle simpler.what i can say about my savage.. it can take a beating like an untrained red headed step child!!

the savage is built like a boat but it also drives like one wat good does alot of power do if you can't steer it the savage is a nice truck dont get me wrong but the dual rail chassis causes everything to be so stacked up in there hell its like 13 screws for the engine to come out my maxx is 4 there both great trucks and not dissing either one but i would take my maxx anyday just because of handling and i dont get how the heck you guys break your maxxs i have one with bone stock cept alum skids and only thing i ever broke was a t/b servo

Bob24, Shut up.......

You really can't say anything about the savage. Your judging all your opinions on a older 25 savage 25 that was rear wheel drive. The steering worked fine for me when i had it too. I flipped it over less too then i do my new maxx. The TVP's IMO are a great set up for bashing and make it a hell of a lot stronger. Yes you may have to remove the skid to get to the motor mount but why would you realy need to get to the motor mount unless your changing the engine or maybe a clutch. Just my $0.02

You don't even have to remove the skid. There should have been 4 holes where a decent length hex driver would have been enough to remove the 4 bolts to get the engine out.
And I don't know if its just me but I will sacrifice easy of taking it apart for the durability where you never need to replace poop.

hell its like 13 screws for the engine to come out
Uh....dude? Are you sure about that? I have 2 savages and all I have ever had to do to pull the engine is 4 hex heads.....that is like saying I had to pull the bed and the gas tank out of my 1:1 truck to get to the rear diff. I switched from a Maxx to a Savage because I got tired of fixing the thing....and I don't think it was any more stable than the Savage at all. I have broken two fuel tanks on a T-Max.......Savage none. The Maxx is a good truck...it was the original MT but....it is a bit dated.

I have a beefed up 21 and an x ss and only 4 screws to take engine out.....I find the savage easy and fun to rip apart. Savages are tough beasts.

savages are tough I'm not denieying it but i would take my maxx over it anyday the savage is to big a boaty for me yeah it may be a little tougher but i have never had any problems with my t-maxx and zach stop trying to sounmd like a smart a$$ just because ur savage was a POS doesn't mean I've never played with another one??i dont like them thats my 0.02

YA know when I was a kid, I used to go to the coffee shop with my Granddad and listen to the old guys argue about everything from fords and chevys, john deers and massys, corn or soy beans. it bring back memories to hear you guys going back and forth about Savage and Maxx and I don't have to get out in the cold to go to the cofee shop.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Mike

you summed it up perfectly. We're not going to solve the Ford vs. Chevy debate today, nor will we ever solve it. Partially because opinions differ so much from different experiences, and partially because we always think that what we have is better than what our neighbor has. Kinda like one guy going on and on about how his Geo Metro is a lot better than his neighbor's Rolls Royce Phantom because it gets such good gas milage.

What kind of trouble did you have with your Maxx? I have always felt that if you have trouble with one truck you will have trouble with a different truck.

The Savage will take more punishment than most but it breaks just like every other rc.

i have a savage and a t-maxx 2.5 and my t-maxx tears up everyday and my savage has only broke the steering servo once but anyways it has a lot of power thts hard to control but the savage is the way to go!!!

how can you tear up a maxx everyday I've ran mine for 3 or 4 monthes now and only lost a shock due to bad balljoint end unless ur jumping the thing off your house or running it into brick walls i dunno how you break it everyday

I own a savage, my friend owns a T-Maxx 2.5 which the 2.5 is swapped to a 2.5R it breaks rear axles everytime he goes out, he just bought some metal ones though. Only thing i ever broke on my Savage was a servo i didnt water proof! oh and my spur gear due to me thinking who i bought it from had used lock tight on the "4" hex screws that hold the engine in. which it slid which is why the spur gear went, probly would have lasted alot longer.
