There si no one in my erea that runs savages, adn I am still trying to figure out if my savage is shifting, if anyone has some free time can you post a video of a savge going, by and shifting so i can hear what it should sound like?

if you savage was new, don't mess with it shifting.. you have to tune your engine properly.. if not.. factory settings are 14 1/2 turns out on the 2 speed... if it doesn't shift then... try 16 turns or 18... that will realy make the truck shift.. it is easier to have it shift early and you can always turn it back to make it shift later.. turning it out makes it shift early and turning it in make is shift later... it is notice a heavy sound is 1 gear and lighter sound is 2nd gear.. like BUUUUUUUR , BAAAAAAAH

if u have it for a while and u really want to hear it shift then try chekin ur pins in the tranny they could have fallen out

Have you broken in the engine yet and fine tuned it? If so put 'er on the pavement on a decent long stretch and let 'er fly, believe me you will know when it shifts.

I know for a fact that I have the beast tuned right, its properly broken in and its still not shifting. I have tried to adjust the shift point as well, but no matter how I hold the tires, and spin the spur gear I can not get to the screw to adjust it. I am thinking of tearing the tranny down and making sure that everything inside is in proper order.

yea sounds like a good idea or you could try hiolding the car up or put on a stand rev slowly get higher and higher rev then you will be able to hear it shirft like that

I've been playing with my savage for the first time over the last few days and I also couldn't get it to shift. Turns out I had slippage in a couple places - slipper clutch too loose and flywheel not tight.

You can tell if you have slippage if the engine speeds up rpms without the truck accelerating... like rev it a few times... does it go up and then down or does it slowly increase and then stay on the same rpms with the truck speed?

If you have a long enough runway you can accellerate slowly so that if there is slippage you'll still get up to speed.

You'll know the switch when you hear it. I was like "ohhh there it is"..

Holey moley. That far out is practically, well, out. According to HPI, the actual factory setting is 3.5 turns from gently tightened. It should shift fine at that point.

If you want to hear the shift, pick the truck up and hold it by the 'handle'. Get a good firm grip on it, then give it some throttle. Don't hold full throttle for more than 2-3 seconds. You should feel it kick. Trust me, you can't miss it.

edit; oh, and this thread is over 3 years old.... Tales from the Crypt!

Don't know why this is called a savage video...freaking confusing...

I had the same problem. The slipper was the culprit. The rear plate came loose some how so the slipper was not able to do its job. I tightened down ALL THE WAY and it still did not work. Go to inspect it and low and behold the culprit showed its ugly face. Re assembled the slipper again and the thing was on its lid from wheelies.
