RC Driving Style
My savage runs pretty good but i have no other nitro rc cars (beside my friend and his brother which are worse about these thing then i am) to compare my performance too. I have a steady idle speed and i have good acceleration (not pulling whellies though like I've seen in some vids), my main concern is that once i accelerate it will get to speed but it takes a couple seconds for it to shift into second in which it sounds raspy, I'm almost possitive this is a sign of over-leanness but not completely sure. I do not see significant amounts off smoke at an time, there is some light smoke when i give it WOT but not the thick trail i think I'm supposed to have, can someone please help me?? My main concern is the un-smoothness of the high range rpms.

It sounds like the engine is starving for fuel at high rpm's. Are you taking temps?

I would richen it a 16th of a turn at a time,(high speed needle only) run for a few minutes, see how the settings take (inbetween 16th turn increments) until it stop choking for fuel.

As for wheelies, those are in your Low Speed needle, IF, the engine has the power and you are geared to do them. Go too lean on the Low speed needle and you will hate it. Not to mention, no good for the mill.

Yup!!.

Blue smoke is a good sign for nitro engines..

Nitro engines don't always have blue smoke. The main time to look for blue smoke is when you have a newly cleaned air filter. If the air filter is dirty you can't really see blue smoke.

Plus I have noticed that any other engines than Traxxas engines don't really have alot fo blue smoke at all.

Well.... i dont have any, so am i too rich or to lean???
Usually if you don't have any smoke you are too lean and if there's a lot you are rich. You want a nice trail coming out but you don't want clouds of it pouring out.

OK.

It just thqt of all the engines I have had (Traxxas, sirio, Kyosho, HPI and one XTM) there has allways been blue smoke. Just visible all the time.

I have had them at the right tune. If not. The before mentionet rich/lead smoke signs has orrured.

If I have misinformed anyone by stating this then please forgive me, but I still do think as a general rule that the "smoke test" does apply to overall tuning without having a temp gun. (whhch I allways carry with me when driving)

Regards.

i do the good old spit test which i always use i have no temp gun,i run the piss out of it then put a little spit on my finger then i put it on the head if it sizzles up really fast like a second or 2 its too hot (lean)you need it to stay a few seconds ita a hard way to tell but i've been doing this so long that i can pretty much tell if its hot or not thats why i never found a need for a temp gun,but this probably aint the best recommendation its just what i've been doing,if you dont see the smoke your in trouble so richen her up a bit, your shifting problem is probably cause its to lean not making enough power to poop, running it to lean like thats going to cause damage to the engine!!!

wheelies

u probly wont get any wheelies if your using stock savage springs {thier to week}. most of the savage wheelies u see in the video's are because they have heavy duty shocks {or even stock} w/dual rate springs.

Well see, i just put on some triple rate springs. I'm not that worried about it, id rather see my savage on all 4 wheels instead of its back anyway.
