hi i recently bought a used hpi savage 21 from ebay.
it's had a load of mods done to it bigger engine etc.
I've only used it in the back yard a few times and noticed that it needs a huge turning circle.
I've seen some videos of savages turning on a dime so I'm guessing mine is not normal.
anyone on here have any idea what may be causing this?
I'm using a standard battery pack and a ko pro po ps2174 steering servo.
also the throttle linkage seems to get stuck on the battery box when I'm running causing the savage to go out of controll.
the only solution I've had to that problem is to remove the top of the battery box.
but this leaves my receiver exposed.
any help will be highly appreciated.

well idk on the steering. for the throttle just take a dremel and trim off where it sticks. but dosent the savage 21 radio box not cover the throttle servo.
 
i changed the battery box with the newer version.
it's the linkage rod thats sticking if i were to cut that part off the battery box i'd not have a lot of the box left on that side.

whats the torque rating on that servo? what kind of tires are you running? I've seen the larger tires, like big joes, cause a big turn radius. As for your linkage sticking, just bend the linkage arm slightly so it does rub anymore. if you dont want to do that, remove the turn wheel and replace it with a locking collar.
 
Take off the front wheels. Manually turn thesteering rack with your hands. The carriers will hit on the uprights too early, limiting steering angle. You can dremel a bit of material off of each part to increase how far the wheels turn. It's not hard to do and takes about an hour to do. Just don't overdo it or you dogbones will pop out when you turn the truck hard in rough terrain. i don't know the specs of your steering servo but it takes at least 180 oz. of torque to turn a monster truck with authority.
Too fix your throttle linkage problem you need to remove the servo horn and recenter it so that you get full throw without interference. You may need to put a little bit longer piece of fuel tubing on the brake linkage for proper operation. Hard to tell for sure from here though.

it's 12kg torque i had no idea this servo was so expensive i just found one in a shop for 92 pounds!!.
i only paid 130 for the savage.
 
o nevermind. dont do that. i didnt looka hard enough at the one pic. just take off that little cover

hey on the steering issue, there is a good possibility that the "throw" is set too low. its an adjustment that limits the travel of the servos. on stock hpi radio's it is only for the steering and most aftermarket radio set-ups have that adjustment for both throttle and steering. if its the stock hpi radio then its the small nob in between the trim controls.. check it out. that could be the problem
 
If you have a good servo then you can tighten up the servo saver a bit. Not much though. If you read the manual it tells you how to adjust the servo saver properly and what the max adjustment is.

not sure what that would do...........but okie dokie:thumbup:
 
If you have the stock HPI radio, there is a wheel that is located by your thumb. Turn that one direction and you have minimal steering; Turn it the other way you gain more steering. Just make sure that you don't set it full and its not able to go that far.
