Hey guys,

I went to the track this weekend and it seems that I have chewed up my spur gear. I know I can get the stock spur with pad cheep but I am thinking of upgrading to a steel spur. I know this is a great upgrade and am wondering what gears you guys are running if you have upgraded to the steel spur. Post links if you got'em.

Think the only thing out for the Savage from RRP is the 52t metal spur gear and 14t CB combo, I have it and it has proven very worthy, cost about $40.00, but sure beats those stock plastic gears!

i have gone thru 1.5 gal of 30% beating on my savage 25 and haven't a problem with the stock spur. just make sure the engine is square with the spur when you set the lash and don't get it too tight. when it is set, you should be able to hold the cb with your finger and just ever so slightly feel the spur rock back and forth. i tried the paper trick but it wasn't very consistant so i just set it up by feel. now this was with a new cb and spur so once its set and you're running, just leave it alone. i run in very sandy conditions and it seems to have accelerated the wear on the db cups but so far no spur problems.

I hit a rock (appx 30mph to 0 mph instantly) today and stripped the spur gear...thinking of replacing it with a steel one but then, wonder what would have broken had the spur not ...think I will stay with plastic...maybe they are plastic for just that reason...ordered 5 replacements....(I have 2 Savage 25s)...:>)

that's exactly why they use plastic so you can keep on buying them over and over and over again.. or buy a large quantity.. I've had the RRP metal spur gear and hit everything from THICK MUD, Rocks, bad jumps, high jumps, over sized tires too.. and still keeps on ticking...

and besides the Savage has METAL Transmission gears... I came to find out that the T-MAXX uses plastic in there transmission...

Hmmm thanks for all the info guys, for now I got the stock spur gear to get me going. None of my LHS's had a metal spur at all nor did they have a better upgraded brake so I am stuck with stock. I know I can make other worthwhile improvements for the time being. Once again thanks for all ur help. The Robinson sounds like the way to go since it comes with a nice hardened bell. Later

I just talked to 3 different LHS owners and they all were willing to sell me a metal gear but, they all advised against it....they ALL said the gear was plastic so it would strip before causing more severe damage...at $4 each, and I can change it in appx 15-20 minutes,I will stay with plastic...RCR
