How much of a job is changing the spur gear?

I stripped mine during a minor bashfest today and have never changed one before!
(I've only had the truck two weeks)
As the truck didn't come in kit form, I didn't have to put it together, therefore have no idea how to change it.
The manual makes absolutely no sense to me.
From reading the picture based manual (why is there no text in there?) It seems to me I have to remove the servo box, and then the gearbox, to get it out and replace. Surely this can't be the case for a part that, apparently, goes quite often!
Any hints / tips on how to change the spur gear?
Help is greatly appreciated

You don't have to take any thing apart! do you have a 7mm open end wrench Just take the nut of thats holding the spur gear on and slip it off..Make sure to not lose the spring and spacer and washer that sits behind the nut..

(edit) you will have to take you engine out also..

Well, I damage mine quite often so here goes:

1) From underneath the truck, take out all four screws that hold the engine mount in place.

2) Unhook the exhaust pipe and the bell crank arm attached to the engine and put the engine to the side. Now, holding the spur gear with your hand, remove that center nut and make sure the spring and other items attached to the spur gear do not get lost.

3) See page 23 of your manual on how to put the new spur gear back on the gear box. Don't forget to Peel the paper off the sticker of your new pad before putting it on the spur gear.

4) After all is put together onto the gear box, tighten the nut back on all the way then back it out a half turn or whatever setting you prefer.

5) Before reattaching the engine, clean off the engine mounting plate on the truck and the bottom the engine mount on the block. This will make it easier to set the mesh. Also, this is now a good time to check that the top screws on your mount are also secure and that your mount has not been cracked. This is sometimes the reason your spur gear has gone in the first place.

6) Screw the engine back on with all four screws with a tiny bit of medium locktite. Now set your mesh, which is the hardest part. They say you can use the plastic bag between the spur and the CB or just learn to do it by feel. 1mm of play is what I was told and has worked for me. You may sometimes notice that it may not be even all the way around so make sure before fully tightening the four screws that you have that play all the way around and no part of it is too loose. Also, after tightening all four screws, check it again as it may have moved while you tightened them.

7) Now, just reattach the bell crank and the pipe and your set.

Cheers man.
That's a pretty easy to follow guide you've put in there for me.
Thanks for the effort.
Unfortunately, for me, it's 1.30am here now so I won't be doing it until tomorrow.
Thanks again
