Okay I decided on getting the Savage a long time ago. And My lhs just got them in yesterday so I decided to pick one up. We went down and got it and Boy is this thing a beast! I did a little comparing to the T-maxx and The Savage is just bigger. The shocks are probably its most impressive MonsterTruck Feature yet. They are about Seven inches long. I havent tried breaking in yet but I will today. Any tips on breaking in the Savage?

follow the instructions. If you are familiar with breaking in Nitro engines, you shouldn't have too much trouble.

Do a search on this forum about what you need to do to the truck, there is something with one of the shock towers, you will find more info than you will need.

Have fun Yo

take the top left shock bolt out and turn it around. Otherwise, if you land hard on that corner, it'll send the bolt thru the tank wall.

Already done, I've read that somewhere and I successfully did it. Thanks for the concern. I am having a hard time starting the engine up, should i richen out the hsn more or something. I can hear it trying to start but it just wont start.

Get a hot plug, set the needles at the recommended factory break-in settings, open the throttle a tad (not much, ~2mm or slightly more) and keep the heater on it. Don't prime it much, just get the fuel to the carb and maybe 1 light pump more. Start pulling the cord. once it's going, let it heat up, then richen the HSN but keep it running. Keep the temps at 180 to 200 for the first tank idling. Once it's going, it should idle w/o the heater, even slobbering rich.

I did this with a brand new 21BB and a Hyper 8.

Check for crud in the needle assembly also.

Wait a minute. The instructions say to push the primer until the fuel reaches the carb, then push the primer four more times. Am i mistaken or is there more than one way to do this? I've hear that alot of people did that and it didnt flood the engine. Help! I'm going to the track in 5 hours and I want to have my savage and my Rustler ready to beat up on those annoyying maxxes. Wait a minute, my rustler always beats up T's.:hehe:
Help!

I tried the "pump 4 more times" thing and it always seemed to flood on me, not hydro locked, but flooded all the same. Sometimes I had to set the thing on the rear bumper and pull with the heat on, fired on the third pull or so. JMHO, but do what works for you and your mill.

I just dropped some fuel in the carb for the initial start. I think with break in though, it will flood really easy and be almost impossible to start

Once the fuel reches the carb, I would only give it 1 or 2 more primes. 4 is probably flooding it.

hpi wants you to run that much fuel through it to lubricate the internals. you only have to do it the first couple of tanks. Don't get to citical on the break in. just keep the muxtures rich for the first few tanks and you'll be fine.
just keep pulling the first few starts are hard.

Thanks guys! I got it running and all broken in today! I am ready to hit the track tomorrow at 8:00am. My savage is getting tuned slowly and my rustler loves its new PL mashers. The four pumps never flooded my engine yet. I just pump it till it reaches the carb, then four more pumps, then four pulls w/o igniter, then finally insert the igniter and fire her up.

As for the comparison to the Savage and the T-Maxx, the Savage IMO is by far the better choice. It has way more suspension travel and it seems way more durable. The only thing that sets it back is speed and reverse, but Real racers dont need reverse and speed is always easy to just put in a Picco or an Omega engine. For the t-maxx youll need a $150 kit plus the engine. So my opinion is SAVAGE OWNS. BTW: Kwong, my savage owns your savage. Ill be sure to get pics up soon.
