I've heard from people who have the savage 25 that it is really hard start with the roto start (i just ordered the savage 25)

is this true?
 
ived have the savage 25 for a month and a half and until know no problems with the roto starter i just press the button 1 time for about 2 seconds and my truck its ready to run. good luck.
 
hey guys, i just hooked a roto start to my XTM 24.7 and works pretty good. i have it in my supermaxx so it is kinda tricky find the spot, but it only takes a few seconds to start it.

The only time the roto start becomes an issue is when you flood the engine. Pull the plug, crank a few times, reinsert plug and hit it!

What ever you do. Don't be tempted to attach another device to the roto driver shaft, ie 1/2 electric drill motor. A friend of mine did it and twisted his roto shaft in two....:idea:

Long story short. Have a spare battery pack on hand for the roto start unit...:cheers:
 
Haven't used a roto start yet but I do know one thing, they do like to chew up the one way bearings quite well. Later
 
I used the Rotostart on my .21BB and broke in my Picco .26 with it and still have original one-way bearings (Knock on wood). This is after 7+ gallons between the two. I have friends that have gone through more one-way's with their pull-starts. If you use a little care and don't try to force things you should hopefully have no problems. Good luck.
 
I initially had problems with the gears stripping on the handheld unit. I used it vary carefully at all times. Looking back though, I did have a problem with the button sticking which did not help matters when it was flooding - but I was quick to remove the unit when this occured. I have since removed part of the bezel from around the button and have received a new set of free gears from HPI.

I was using my Makita in the meantime which worked fine - use low torque settings if you do this. Recently, I started using the rotostart again with no problems - maybe it was just a fluke - donno.

Overall, I don't think the quality Rotostart's drill unit is comparable to the quality of the Savage 25. As long as you are careful, you will probably be OK. In other words, you won't get away treating the rotostart like you do the rest of the truck.
 
I have a Savage 21 equipped with HPI roto start. It works very well for me, but I understand how someone can get upset and end up breaking parts with it.

My experience is that do not keep it on for more than 10 seconds, because chances are, there is something wrong with the carb needles, glow plug, fuel line, etc. Remember how with the pullstart you feel the stiffening when you pull the cord when the engine is flooded, you will not necessarily feel this with the roto start so be cautious. This is when you break your one-way bearing.
Most of my problems starting is associated with the glow plug and or needle adjustment, so make sure you check your plug when you experience hard starting.
I even run my Savage on snow, and I virtually have no problems with it.
