Allright I'm new to this website, but I wanted to know if anyone had anything bad to say about the savage or things I should know before ordering I may be ordering it this friday or on the 16 not sure the pay check will decide. I just don't want to purchase this and be dissapointed like I was with my tlo1 (worst purchase ever)
thanx

If you are into offroad, then this truck will deliver. I have not been able to find anything horribly wrong with it. Typical to most RTR MTs, the suspension (specifically the stock shocks) is not quite up to snuff. Also, the stock dogbones have a design flaw that makes them prone to breaking. There are those that will say the stock engine (NitroStar 21BB) is not all that, but I've seen it work just fine.

I bought a few hop ups for my Savage the day of, or within a day of, purchasing my Savage. They were:

Hot Bodies threaded shocks with 60wt silicone
Hot Bodies CVDs
HPI superflow air filter
Dynamite fuel filter
Ofna Hyper 21 8-port engine

These hop-ups addressed the problems most people considered issues for them. My next series of purchases will be a new pipe to handle the 8-port (so far the stocker seems just fine, but a tuned pipe is always a good purchase), a stronger steering servo (HiTec HS-5645MG--standard upgrade I make for my RCs), and maybe some ProLine Big Joe 40 series tires...just because. I'll also be looking to change the gearing (spur and clutch) in order to handle the more powerful engine.

I've seen both the stock Savage run and my 8-port Savage run....the engine upgrade is well worth the money. Haven't jumped my Savage too hard yet, but so far the shocks were a wise investment. I have not broken a dogbone (unlike most with stock dogbones) so I consider the CVDs a wise investment.

So...at the end of this long post, what am I saying? Like most MTs, out of the box, the Savage is an excellent truck. With a few minor tweaks it becomes a great truck. In the hands of an experienced RC driver, the tweaked Savage becomes a supreme truck. Enjoy.

probably wont be doin a whole lot of jumpin but a lot of packed dirt and sand runs; do you think the savage will be good on the sand with those maxx paddles or some street slicks. upgrades on my savage will be slow since I do not have a job, but once a get a job it would be nice to have a modded up savage but it can wait.
thanx

For what you describe as your terrain, the stock Savage should be more than adequate. As for paddles, great for sand. You may dig yourself in pretty quick with the Savage. I wouldn't run slicks on this thing on any terrain; you'll spend more time turning the tires than running. If you want a good all terrain tire, the stock tire works great. If you must run a street tire, I recommend the ProLine Road Rage on a decent wide offset rim.

The savage wouldn't be good on sand?? Ah, well do you think it would be ok if I started going got up to a decent speed then enterd a sand pit it would stand a chance?? I will be doing some jumping, but not right out of the box I would like to keep it in tact for at least a month. Is there anything I should know about break in I know that it will be fairly difficult for the first few tanks to keep it running because it is abc(?) but other than that is there anything I should keep in mind??
thanx

The stock tires do work well in sand, most of my bashing is in heavy sand dirt, and I even got permision to usethe golf coarse and hit the sand traps. Unless its loose sand then the stock should hold up fine.

Sand gets everywhere so clean it well when your done, dont want sand falling in you engine when you remove your glow plug.

I will make sure to clean the car very well after I use it in the sand

Unless its loose sand then the stock should hold up fine.

What did you mean by this isn't golf course sand loose, or did you mean beach sand??, because that is what type of sand I was talking about.
thanx

^^^i agree with agm, if you're gonna be running your rc's on sand, make sure you clean them well, use air compressors, a speck of sand can ruin your engine...

i have a savage, i like it very much, i have upgraded to a hyper 21 8-port, as most savage owners have, heavy-duty dogbones, rd logic pipe, and motorsaver air filter...so far i only broke 1 stock dogbone, sheered of 1 end, and an engine from doing a jump and landing right on it...

Stock should be fine in sand, loose or otherwise. The big concern isn't the traction (which the Savage will spew sand everywhere for you), but the engine and electronics.

As everyone here has already alluded to, sand and engines do not get along. Sand and gears also do not mix so well. Make sure you have a good quality air filter that is properly secured to the carb and clean the truck really well after you play. Be careful of using an air compressor. Set it too high and it might push the sand into places it shouldn't be.

I have an air compressor but is a pretty powerfull one is there any way to keep the rocks and sand out of the gearing or at least prevent it
Thanx

Use a diffuser if you have one. Something that will cut the flow rate down or reduce the air pressure out of the hose. Then direct the air flow from the centerline of the RC out.

So its kinda like sweeping but with air?? I have to ask my dad if we have a diffuser if not he'll probably make something to slow the air flow.

I have one more question, can the savage doe wheelies stock?? I watched one of those HPI videos and they never really go in a straight line or just mash the throttle off the line??

As weak as the stock suspension is with respect to the shocks, I would not be surprised in the least if the Nitro Star 21BB pulls the wheels up. I never ran mine stock. I installed all my hop-ups and set my suspension to negate wheelies prior to breaking in my Hyper 21.

It is still in a bag on my work bench...not even broken in...sticker still on it that says to remove before starting...waiting on a buyer to bring me some money for it.

$140 is the price...Pirata says he's going to buy it. Still waiting to hear from him.
