Any of you guys running this combo? I was just wondering about the power band of the Mach with the Savage. I have a Mach 26 as a spare that came out of my LST and am needing a good reliable powerplant for the Savage.

I'm not personally familiar with the mach .26, but I'd at least make sure that you have the 4 spider diff mod before running it too hard. I have a picco .26 in mine and the drivetrain holds up well.

Also, I'd go with an RRP bell/spur combo. As soon as I put more power in my savy, It ate spur gears like crazy.

I had thought about the 4 spicer mod and was thinking I would just get on Ebay and buy a couple of diffs from the new 4.6. Tey already have the mod done, right?

I have it in one of my savages and it is a great motor for the truck . I dont really care for the big block wheelie happy trucks . I like to drive my truck and it will keep it very drivable .

The 4.6 comes new as a kit. I'm not sure if it has the four spider mod or not.
A couple of these would suit you nice though.

Hey thanks for the link and the replies guys. I realize the 4.6 comes as a kit but there is always someone selling one that is new but in parts. If you think about it this truck is a Savage 21 and could probably do with the whole diff replacement. I know the 25 comes with the 4 spider diffs now so I am assuming ( ) that the 4.6 does as well.

the 4.6 has the 4 gears in the diffs from the factory.

You will need to upgrade to the 4 gear diff to handle the power of the .26.
while your at it upgrade the rest of the drivetrain either get HD dogbones or get CVD's.
to avoid mealting spurs you will need to just about lock the slipper. crank it down as tight as you can and back off about 2-3 hours (just less then a quarter of a turn) after a few tanks check the slipper pad (works better if it's new) and you'll see that it does indeed slip from the wear on the pad.

you may also want to gear it high say 47/18 this will curtail the wheelies and give you insane speed (at least for a savage) when you have the space to open it up. I shoehorned a 47/20 in mine and it was intense when up to full speed and it still wheelied from time to time.

I have that motor and I love it.. Its not the fastest engine I have, Its not the newest engine i have, but it is the most reliable engine I ever owned.. I have ported it for more power, and it still starts and runs perfect after 5-6 gallons.. The powerband is the best thing about it.. Its sooo smooth that it almost seems slow but its not.. Its just an overall great engine.. I bought a rebuild kit so I can keep it around for a wheil when it decides to go..

One thing is that you will be restricted to gearing.. I belive I got an 17/47 in there but it was tight.. I know 16/49 works but its tight too.. The pull start and roto start units are big on these engines and they make contact with the TVP before other engines do...

I have this motor in my savage. It is awesome motor and i have the spider gears in diff and its holding up great. i have a little problem starting it but when i get it started it runs good and starts right up after initial starting. I would like to know if anyone has a roto start on theres and what parts i would need to put one on mine.I know the roto backplate that normally comes on it the rod is in the middle and its blocked by parts. Let me know if anyone has an answer for me please. Thanks
