I bought my new savage 25 earlier this summer and got it about 95% broke in. Then life caught up with me and I had to set it aside. I tried starting her up this morning and, no suprise here, wouldnt even come close to turning over.

The batteries all appear to be good. The fuel is fresh. It is a bit cold out today, actually it just snowed this morning. I had my truck inside the whole time it wasn't being used so it was warm when i took her out to the garage to try and fire her up.

What do you guys recommend as far as getting it in a running condition? What should I check? Any help, as always, it greatly appreciated.

Take your glow plug out and make sure it still glows red hot.

Check your lines to make sure the fuel is getting into to carb.

If you have any brake cleaner, hold the engine upside down and spray some in there using the little red tube on the can. This will let all the gunk run out and clean up any residue that might be in the engine.

Let us know how that goes.

i would also try applying a few drops of after run oil in the carb, then give it more throddle little by little until she kicks over. if it still doesn't work you'll probably have to adjust your needles.
 
Hey neighbor, I see you're from Mpls. I just bought a 25 RTR this summer as well and had the same problem. I was cranking on it, and nothing. I even poured some fuel into the carb and replaced the glow plug, which caused it to fire then die.

I then richened up the carb way up and bang, she fired right up. A couple of runs, and a few turns of the carb.. she was dialed right back into performance.
 
Yeah, what Jamin said, because it's colder out you need to richen your needles a little to compinsate for the more dense air.
 
also if there was fuel left in the truck then there might be some stuck in the fuel lines. this sounds a lot like what happened to my friends savage. he didn't drive it for awhile, and left gas in the tank, and the gas got all thick and gel like. to fix it i just took of all the lines, fuel tank, and carb and cleaned them out. also richen it up because of the temp drop. good luck.

This is the case. Sadly, I did leave fuel in the tank. So first I want to thank all for the info they provided. Now, tomorrow I am going to empty the tank, clean it out as well as the fuel lines. I am going to do the uni-flow mod cause I did notice that when I was breaking in the engine it seemed to lean waaaay out as the fuel level dropped. I will then richen out the needles and try to fire her up!

We havent had a ton of snow, in fact close to none. Aside from being cold out I'd say its mighty fine weather for some RC action!

I will let you all know how it goes and if I have any problems.
 
Well, it didn't go so good afterall. I am not moving any fuel whatsoever and I have no logical explanation for this. I have reset the needles to factory specs, replaced the fuel lines, and the glow plug. The motor sounds like it wants to start but doesn't hve the fuel to do so.


What could be the problem?
 
Take your fuel line off the tank, & blow into the carb while opening & closing the throttle.. Are you getting air through the carb? If not, try backing out your low speed needle until you can blow through. There might just be some buildup in the carb...

Quick note.... Watch your eyes while doing this... Fuel or residues can shoot out of the carb neck, into your eyes... I've seen it...
 
You can also spray the entire engine down w/ Non-chlorinated Brake Cleaner. It can be found at any autoparts store or even at wal-mart.

This will help free up any of the carb holes if they are clogged. I recommend holding the engine upside down and use the little red spray attachment to shoot it down. Make sure you spray:

---Inside the entire engine
---All the nipples where the fuel lines connect too
---Inside your fuel tank (even the nipple at the top of the tank lid).
---The exhaust nipple on your pipe.

I've gotten 'gummy' engines to start by putting a few drops into the top of the cylinder, and a few more in the carb. It will fire quickly, and help to suck out whatever might be gummed in the needles. Then the flow of fresh fuel will dissolve the residue. You might have to do this a few times, till it will start and keep running.
It doesn't work all the time, but it's worth a try for the easy way out.

I like to use Next Dimension Non-chlorinated Brake Cleaner. But they don't sell it in my area anymore. So I have tried a couple of others and find the Wearever brand to work just as good as the Next Dimension. You can find it at Advance Auto Parts or Parts America (if you have those in your area). They actually just had it on sale buy one, get one free (made it only $1.25 a can).

The main thing is to make sure it is Non-chlorinated formula b/c it is not as harsh to electronics and plastic. The Wearever & Next Dimension are great at dissolving grime, dirt, etc. Plus, it evaporates in seconds. Other brands have taken forever to evaporate and some have left a film on stuff. But after a shot of WD-40, everything was new again.

I use it to clean my engines and my entire truck after some dirty bash sessions. Just make sure to follow it up w/ some good lube. ARO or WD-40 in the engine.

I just take WD-40 and soak down the whole truck (except electronics). Let it sit for a minute, then spray it off w/ a high pressure air hose. You will be amazed at how clean it gets. Plus, you have oiled all your joints and everything else.

One more suggestion...

Before trying to start the cold motor heat up the motor and the fuel tank with a hair dryer. Get both the tank and the motor nice and toasty. That should help you prime and start it up. Make sure the glow plug glows well when it is on your starter.

I've gotten mine to start after two easy pulls on a 35 degree day after heating it with a blow dryer.
 
When I tried heating up the tank and engine, I always ran into a problem. The nitro would expand due to the increased temps and flood into my engine, my pipe, and will even come out of the air filter. Doesn't that happen to you?

Now, I simply heat just the engine and then pour my nitro into the tank.
 
Well, heres what happened. I tried blowing through the fuel line and I was not getting air through. I then manually adjusted the servo so the LSN backed out a bit and then i started getting airflow through the fuel line. Funny thing is, it is set to factory default now so I should be getting some air through.

I think it is time to buy some non chlorinated brake cleaner and clean this puppy up. I am beginning to think that the fuel left in the carb got gummed up from air exposure and it blocked fuel flow. I will try that today or sunday and let you guys know what happens then.
