Hello I have a Savage 21 and was looking for a good upgrade engine that would be simple to tuned and maintain a tune. I'm looking for an engine that is more powerful than my 21BB. The 21 is getting alittle tired and worn out after all it does have almost 7 gallons through it. I'm looking for a decently powerful engine that won't require me to upgrade everything to handle its power.

Does your truck have the 4-spider gears in the diffs?

If not you're going to need to do that with pretty much any better engine. I blew my rear diff with a S-25 engine, stock on the Savage 25. Once you have 4-spider diffs, you should be good to go.

As for the engine I would suggest the Ofna Picco .28. It has plenty of power, and has been quite easy for me to tune. Another engine to look into is an XTM 24.7. I like this engine because of how reliable it is. I've had a few of them and you really can't kill them, and even if they do get out of tune (which is rare) they are very easy to find the sweet spot. The XTM will have more power than your .21BB, but its not the strongest engine out there. One of the cheapest though.

Yeah in my Savage I have the stock diffs. I found the HOWTO for it on Savage Central and I'm thinking about doing it. After researching engines and other stuff I decided that I like the O.S. 30 or the Picco .27
Besides the diff would there be any other weak spots like dog bones and etc that should be upgraded to take the torque.

EDIT: I found a set of Savage X 4 Spider diffs and was wondering if I could buy them and drop them in or would they need modification?

The savage X diffs should drop right in. Just take the diff out of the bulkhead if it comes with the bulkhead, and use your bulkhead.

Why are you looking at the Picco .27? The .28 is newer better replacement. The Picco .28 or O.S. .30 will be huge improvements over the .21BB. The first of your drivetrain should be ok, you might stip a spur or snap a dogbone every now and then but thats to be expected pretty much.

Everyone may think I'm crazy, I say buy a hpi S-.25,I have over 7 gallons threw mine, been through several diffs but I runn my slipper locked. Overall I love the power, ease of tuning, durability and the price!Just my:2cents:

I don't think you're too crazy joneser, I've been very pleased with my S-25 too. I've got 5+ gal through it. It's been easy to tune and fast enough most people I've run with don't believe it's a .25
Depending on cost, if replacing I would look at a .28-.30 just because I believe more is ALWAYS better. :D
