It was during the breaking in period. After 5 tanks and some fine tuning. I decided to run it with the body on. I ran it for about a few minutes and then checked the temp. It read 303.
I quickly took off the cover and ran it at half throttle to cool down the engine. It went back down to 202.
I'll take your advice and cut out the whole front window. I wonder why this has too be done unless It should be at about 220-230 with the body cover on and 160-180 without the body cover?
I think the problem you were having was with tuning. On most monster trucks you can keep the temps right without cutting a whole in the body, and it gets hot as hell here in Louisiana. If I were you, I would bring the engine up to idle, and tune it with the body on. You will be able to run normal operating temperatures without cutting any wholes I'm almost positive.
Cut out about 1/4 of the windshield to get some airflow.
I prefer to make a bunch of small holes with a reamer in my windshields, that way you get plenty of air without weakening the body.
