okay what is the easiest way to replace savage brakes??

hubby burned his up, and since this is his first savage, ( he's always had t-maxx's) hes a little stumped, the way he is looking at it ( and the way his buddy told him) you have to pull the tranny?

ohh and he's up grading from single disc to dual disc.

I don't think that there is enough wiggle room to extract the drive shaft unless you either pull the tranny or the rear end.
I'd go the rear end route for this...
The rear end is relatively easy to remove. I think you need to remove four screws (2 on left and 2 on right) and loosen a couple more so you can spread out the TVP's (chassis plates) and then it'll come right out - drive shaft will fall out and then he can update/work on the brake hub and then assemble in reverse order.

I find the Savage to be much easier to work on than the T-Maxx myself.

yea it's fairly simple job. take the rear end off the truck and drop the drive shaft and unscrew the two screws holding the discs and pad on and pull them off, and put new ones on. make sure that they are in the correct order!!!!

Savage brakes

Half Pint,

You may not need to replace the brakes, we have 4 HPI savages and I have learned alittle trick about there brakes.:)
1)Clean the brake pads off with a quick evaporating cleaner (brake clean etc.):hehe:
2)Do you still have the spring on the brake servo,rod?:\
3)Replace the spring with a piece of fuel line ,be careful they stop really quick ,you will have to use trial and error.
:D
I would almost bet the brake pads aren't worn out, they are prob. saturated with oil from exhaust and very dirty.Clean with above method and you should be fine.:)
