I was wondering if I should go ahead and get the savage 5.9 or wait for the hpi revolution gas powered truck? Still havent been able to find the release date for it yet. Does anyone know when it'll be released?

The XL is a good truck but the motor has a bad rap but I've had very little trouble with mine. A couple things you should do if you get the XL: check the backplate screws for loctite, seal the engine because its known for air leaks, use a fuel with not alot of oil because it can make the roto start slip causing it to not start easily. My 5.9 had a defective carb and it was missing an o ring on the hsn. Hpi took care of it and its been awesome ever since. I recently switched to a pull start due to my fuel having a lot of oil in it. Also my roto start was having issues last time out. The three speed tranny is also wicked fast and you should follow the break in procedure as per hpi. I would pass on the gasser truck because the first runs of production can be known for problems. Hope this helps, Steve.

Sure does thanks. I'll prolly be ordering my 5.9 soon then.

What upgrades would you recommend I get for it right away? What parts seem to break the most so I can have a few of them on hand?

The only parts i had trouble with were the plastic tie rod ends. They would stretch and pop off the ball ends. I found some aluminum ones on ebay and took care of that. Other than that it's all stock parts. HPI puts a lot of quality and durability in their products. Oh and a lot of people say to shim the diffs. I never did and haven't had a problem but judging by the number of people who suggest this it would be worth looking into. HPI includes the shims in the box with the truck.

Does it tell you how much you should shim it? Thanks for the tips

Same here I've crashed the truck from maybe about 5 -7 feet high to straight on the nose and didnt have one crack and then jut landed the next jump kind of on the right wheel and the plastic turnbuckle piece bent and its like not straightening up so i did my best, put it in the rear and swapped em out.

Also whats cool on the steering knuckes they are universal so if you break one arm on it you can just put it on the other side and your fixed... great idea.

For the diff's i have not had any issues with the shimming, they do recommend you check it on the forum but HPI says nothing about it out of the box. There are always the defective models. In my case I've already ran about a gal of fuel and not had any problems with drive train.

I personally recommend getting a sway bar kit, even though the truck is wider they still roll quite easily when they are getting alot of grip. For instance if you have nice moist dirt and your tires are digging nicely, if you just take the turn alittle to fast it flips over. and the sway bar kit will prevent that from happening as often. Also, i suggest getting CV boot covers because youll notice when you first drive it youll see the green grease coming out from the diffs and you want to keep as much of that in there as possible AND keep debris out.

I personally get ebay, i know others are against it but i can vouch for them they really are about customer satisfaction and really there is no way to get ripped off.. companies always will refund you or replace the part you need with out any head ache.. and plus you dont pay retail !!!

Also i personally like steel spurt gears but some may prefer plastic because they have had things go wrong. but in my opinion nothing will go wrong as long as your mesh is correct and aslong as you have lock tight on the motor mount screws.

If you type on ebay HPI savage XL youll find hundreds and hundreds of parts.
