No, not if you are mechanically inclined and patient. I did it and was surprised how easy it was. They give excellent instructions.
I did it for a LHS customer, not my rig. 2 gears is plenty for me.

cool, I'm gettin one from ebay so I'm just wondering.

They're very easy to install. However, if you're installing the 3 speed, now is the time to install the X transmission case. It provides easy access to the gear train. This is assuming yours is the older .21/25 style.

No the Savage i have is the savage x 4.6. Hey RCnut, i like the stand!!!

I put the three speed in my Savage X. The transmission is made for all Savage models. Just like Scrogg said, easy if your mechanically inclined and patient. I have good mechanical skills but I dont have that much patience. I didnt lose my patience though.

lol, I'm mechanically inclined but also low in patience.

I had to pulll that damn thing out 7 times to adjust the shift points!
Believe me, I had to walk away a few times!

You can adjust the 2-3 shift without taking the transmission apart. It's that 1-2 shift that you have to remove the multi-speed assembly and partially disassemble it to adjust. The X case makes it all that much more easier. Since you have the X 4.6, you're golden.

Right on!! Also would i benifet from buying aluminum clutch shoes?

Whats the average price for aluminum shoes with springs?
I'm in Canada remember, i would rather buy off ebay.

I haven't used them just because I was told that they load up the clutch bell and will have to change them both out once the shoes are cooked. Not sure if this is true or not though

No, only if you let the springs wear into the clutchbell.

i have a savage 3 spd for sale if anyone here wants one ... i will make a hell of a deal on it !!
