OK i think its just me i put me 3spd together and installed it into the truck i read around and saw nothing about putting grease into the gears.. i followed the directions perfectly even had my brother look at it and make sure it was right.... and i started my truck up went down the sidewalk and onto the street and full throttled it and it got about 5 Feet and the truck made a winding sound the motor was still running and the truck RUSHED to an immediate halt I'm confused!!! the spur gear is MELTED but it wont turn usually it can sorta move but its like jammed!!! help out here :arrr:

Did you set your mesh correctly? Also check to see if anything was lodged in the teeth, like a pebble. It was probably a bad mesh. Too tight and you'll bind and over heat. Too loose and you strip it fairly quickly.

You don't put greas on the gears. You are supposed to mesh them properly. How is your slipper assembly? Did you tighten it down to far?

ok well i opened the tranny at my LHS the drive gears inside the first gear (the bigger one) was chipped 1 tooth and on the internal spur gears the 2nd gear (the middle one) was chipped to.... Result: put in a call to HPI and they are sending me the 2 gears in the mail for free and i should POSSIBLY recieve them by this weekend if not this upcoming monday or tuesday the guy at HPI said 4-6 days!!!! but yeah the savage is out of comission till i get those gears :depress:

mine is fine and well. i built it and used a brand new tranny box. getting 1st >2nd adjusted still, but i still havent heard it shift to 3rd.

my tranny sounded like the mesh was perfect could brake drag have assisted in making the gears do this cause i think like maybe a 2.7 HP motor and the brakes dragging puts alot of strain on the tranny and maybe made a gear snap and then casue the other to snap because my brakes were tight as a mutha when i engaged them

when i first put it in you could hear it hit, but now i can't hear it, but can tell by the rapid increase in speed and engine rpms its hitting 3rd

has anyone tried opening the tranny and turning the 3rd gear shift point out 1/4 turn? the only way to get to it is by taking the tranny apart and pulling the gears apart. i haven't heard 3rd hit.

Maybe you are just not hearing the shift. Pick the truck up by the roll bar, hold it in the air, and slowly accelerate with the wheels off the ground. Listen carefully for each shift. You may have to give it a considerable amount of throttle to get it to shift but do not let the motor rev out too wildly with the wheels off the ground.

ok its friday.... still waiting on the parts from HPI i talked to the guy i told him i got like 6 feet and the tranny snapped 2 gears and i gave him the part # and he said theyed be shipped out the same day.(that was monday afternoon) its friday they arnt here I'm disapointed anyone know how they ship? (UPS, DHL, Fedex) they told me 4-6 days its been 4 so i hope by tomorrow they come!!! :argue: ttyl

I got the assymbled 3 speed and it has been great. I would even say it was worth the $95 I spent on it.. No problems at all.. and oh yea I can hear it shift into third.. I feel I gained at least 5 mph wheil having a real low first gear.. I hear people saying that it is a "bashing only" tranny but I wann use it in my racer as well as one in my basher.. Its that good.. I was hoping that I could drill an extra hole so I could get to the first/second adjuster but it is not possible.. Looks like that screw is between the two gears.. so you really have to tear the whole thing apart to change the shift point... Oh well, I was lucky that it was fine the way it came out of the box for my ported/polished mach with 16/49 gearing..

its now monday its been 7 days and i still have not recieved the gears  i dont know but I'm just going to put the 2spd back in and maybe sell the 3spd i dont want to have to deal with this hassle and diver you really can't set the mesh it just sets itself cause of the places it sits but yeah i dont know thinkin bout the 2spd goin in and holding onto get the 3spd :argue:

i was able to change the shft points of 1st to 2nd without taking the tranny out or apart. through the same hole as the 2speed.

Is the 3 speed worth the money?
Whats its use? a lower low and a higher high?

it is well worth it. so quick off the line, and top speeds are unridiculous. make sure you find a wide open space and hold the throttle WOT a little longer to hit 3rd. runs cooler temps, uses less fuel. not as much strain on the motor cause the rpms change with every gear shift.

you'll love it. southeastrc.com has the kit for $61 shipped. i got it within the week also really fast shipping.
