Savage 25 wheelies

Now that it runs right, you can have all sorts of fun playing around with gearing, tires, suspension, ect... That's half of the fun.

I have a Savage 25 that I got used. I just ported and polished the motor added a HPI tuned pipe and thats it. The guy that had it before me has a 18t clutch bell and a 52t spur. I dont think its that fast plus I never pull wheelies, even after I ported and polished it. Would that 18t/52t gearing be the problem. I want speed, but it would be fun to pull wheelies in demand also. This is my first time posting a question, so sorry if I'm all over the place.

i had the same issue i had a os 30 it did great wheelies.then it was time to rebuild so i had it ported and polished and rebuilt it now a ant can pass it no wheelies less speed same gearing.never got it to run right to so i went to a axial 28rr

I think the first time I ported and polished it, I was to scared to be aggresive with the dremmel. Once I read that "How to port and polish" article in RC mag, I followed there directions to the T and the lil S-25 motor came to life. The article said that its a fine line between getting performance from the motor and being off by a few degrees can have negative effect on the motor. Sorry to hear about your O.S. .30. I hear those are very good motors.

You'll be lucky to get the axial engine to run as good as the tore-up o.s. Let us know how it turns out. Seal it straight away.

Post us a vid, good work bud. You did exactly what the poor little 25 needed.
A more aggressive clutch will give you some wheelies. You should be able to go to 16/49 gearing and still pull up the fronts.

I will try and get a vid up soon. My camera man (wife) complains about the cold, so we'll see how it is this week. I do need a new clutch. In the process of trying to get the flywheel off, I damaged the flywheel. There are all kinds of deep scratches on the flywheel. The bad part is I clamped my vise grips on the 3 post that the clutches go on and I think I bent them a lil. When I installed the clutches back on they dont line up perfectly,( instead of looking like a circle, and lining up good, mines looks more like a triagle. And if u rub your fingers around them u can see and feel a lip from where there are off line). By that time I just wanted to run my truck so I did, and they still work but I imagine better clutches would make a big difference. What clutches and flywheel do u recomend??? Thanks again fo the help.

you can get a clutch kit anywere that comes with flywheel/shoes/springs/ i highly recomend a 3 shoe aluminum clutch from nova their a good clutch.hpi also has a nice kit you can get them cheap on e bay
