hey i currently have a stock savage 25 with the .25 motor but i have engine problems so I'm thinking about upgrading to a bigger motor all together. what engine would you guys recommend? and what other parts would i need to get along with a new engine?

just upgrade to the saxage X motor. will fit in and you'll have an instant power increase.:p:

If u want to spend a few bucks, look into the lrp z.28r spec3. I had it in my savage x before I sold the truck and it rips, I have it in my truggy now.

Although those two responses are outstanding, check you motor you may have the 4.1 which is a pretty nice motor. I did what ofnahyper said, put in new k4.6 but it is not completely broke in; but I expect it to pull weeeelies..

Really? My X wanted to pull wheelies during break in! Then when it was tuned it just got annoying cause I couldnt keep it on 4 wheels so I got the extended chassis.

I'm seriously considering dropping a 4.6 motor in it. i fell like the extra power would be alot of fun:D but is there anything else that i should upgrade also? this is a 6 year old savage 25 and its seen LOTS of abuse

I have the same savage. Still as strong as the day it was made. All I've done is put the 3 speed tranny in it and swapped the engine for a 4.6. You wouldn't be dissappointed in the 3 speed either. Get the gearing right and your looking at a 45-50mph savage! A set of RPM arms is a good idea. alot stronger and a bit lighter I think.

What have you done with it whilst you've had it? upgrade wise?

i had an STS DT30M which is a .30, it is hard to find a dealer andthey are rather expensive. but I've had lots of engines and this one is the easiest to tune, fastest, and longest lasting. the only bad part is it requires alot of attention during the break in process. it takes a little longer to break in, and it takes about a gallong of fuel until it gets to peak performance. you wont be dissapointed with this one though

yeah I'm looking in to a 3 speed too because i think my 2 speed is shot. it hardly shifts anymore. i havnt had time to mess with it tho. i might just need to tune it up a little. where can i get these things and how much do you think it would cost?

Tuning will definitely make a difference on when and if it shifts. The bigger engine will be a lot more fun, just do it! My Savage is the 25 version too and I'm running an STS .28

wow somebody besides me who has an sts engine, not too often does anyone have an sts

I've also heard good things about STs engines and the 4.6. I had both lrp .28 and .30's in my savages and they rip s@$t

could i take an old 3.5 engine out of an ofna buggy and rig it up to fit in my savage? if so how would i go about doing that because i have an old 3.5 that runs mint that i could put in for now

you'd have to see if the savage mount fits with the 3.5. Your dropping down in power using that engine tho. You'd have to change your shift point again. Saying that the savage 3.5 isn't a bad rig at all. My mate has one and it isn't that far behind the 25. Its alot tamer and more controllable. You may find the 3.5 engne is too long and the clutch bell scraps on the spur. Adjust the engine mount and ensure the mesh is right. Put the clutch bell of the 25 onto the 3.5 if it will fit. Its just because thats what the spur has worn to use.

yeah i think the length of the engine would be my only issue. I'm only doing this because I've been having problems with my stock .25 engine. so i should take off the flywheel and clutch bell and switch them over to the new engine? my clutch bell on my 3.5 is ruined anyway but the motor is mint and i want to get some use out of it. and would i have to adjust it to shift sooner?

i'd just use the clutch bell off the 25. That way u'd be keeping your current gearing. Most parts like that are interchangeable. You'll prob have to switch the carb round aswell as the pin will be on the wrong side. You might not have to move the shift point just depends on the rpm of the engine your using. If the 3.5 can't produce the required RPM that you had in the 4.1 you may have to move the shift point earlier. Just give it a go and see what happens.

i tried setting it up and the engine dosnt fit on the savage mount. the front two holes dont line up but the back ones do.

new engine

i put a axial 28 2 spec i love it fast powerful big different from the 4.6.
