Hey i just joined this site but I've been having problems starting my savage 25. it seems like everytime it fires up for a second it stops turning over and stalls. its not the OWB because i just got a new one and I'm sure it works and the glow plug is still good and the starter is charged. could someone help me out? idk whats wrong :\

Hi there. Firstly check that you have a 1-2mm gap in the carb. This is so it will idle nice. Next you can check for fuel flow. If your using clear fuel line make sure you can see the fuel going in (no bubbles or gaps). Is the savage new or used? If it is stalling when you remove the glow ignitor could be because you are running too rich. You'll see lots of excess fuel coming from the exhaust if you are.
After checking these let us know how you got on. I'm sure its something simple.

no this savage is probably around 4 or 5 years old. i got it when the 25 first came out and i used to drive it hard but i stopped for about 2 years and I'm just stating up again. i had it running a few weeks back for about a half a tank then ran out of nitro. but yes I've checked all those things and everything checks out good. but it is spitting out alot of fuel from the exhaust and i dont remember what way leans it and whitch makes it richer.

High speed needle-clockwise=lean counter clockwise=rich. Flush with the collar is usually break in "default" setting go in 1/8 increments lean until it still produces good smoke and there is still is a noticeable difference in power when you dont see a difference richen it back up 1/8 turn but make sure not to lean it too much make sure you still have a good blueish smoke coming from the exhaust. Low speed- should also be flush with collar at break in setting usually. Follow the same method as above but really shouldnt need to much tuning and for the idle set so the carb is about 1-2 mm open. When i have tuning issues i go back to factory setting most of the time and retune from there. Which is usually flush with the collars on all needles most of the time

thanks for the info man thats gonna help me. but it still wont start up and I'm not sure why

Sounds like the clutch shoes may be dragging on the bell. If it still has the original S25 teflon shoes, they're garbage. Mugen carbon shoes, 1.0 springs, and an Ofna vented CB properly shimmed was the hot setup back in the day for the S25's. These mods on mine equaled no more melted spur gears, and instant wheelies. :D

I'm finally able to get it started. i guess the engine was just all full of crap because its been sitting for 3 years. but now I'm having trouble shifting to second gear. it goes thru first gread but right when it should be shifting it just bogs and slows down

You're gonna need to tear the carb down and give it a good thorough cleaning. Had to do the same thing to mine after sitting for about a year.

Dose the motor sound burrbully and sound like its misfiring at full throttle/top speed......it may just be set to rich

You'll definitely have to get it running/tuned right before it will shift right.

I'm terrible at tuning lol i have it pretty good right now i just think my high speed is a little too rich
