Hey there guys. I have recently changed my stock cooling head for one of those nova race heads. My engine is the .25 HPI for the savge 25. I have noticed the engine is not emitting any smoke. It did this with the stock head also. I have fitted the 3 speed gearbox in it also. I know what your all gonna say about me runnin too lean but i am not. the normal running temp has gone no higher than 200F. If I richen it up it struggles to engage second.
Is my engine on its way out. possible air leak? In my opinion my truck is running really well but justs seem to be no smoke.

Any help or feedback as always much appreciated.
Phil

what kind of fuel are you using and what percent nitro
what percent lubrication

This is off topic but how do you like the three speed? I just bought the conversion hoping for more torque on the lower end! Did it help for you? Oh, and I also run that same fuel and can get plenty of smoke out of my f4.6. How many gallons would you guess has been run through your engine?

Absolutly great. I'm probably running a too higher gear config on the spur and clutch bell. I'm running 14tooth clutch and 49tooth spur. This gives it loads of acceleration through first. I've adjusted it so it changes quite quick into second then a longer second gear. I have clocked it at 39mph. With a different gearing would prob get 5mph more. Also a stronger nitro would help. I'm not sure how much fuel its had as i bought it second hand with no history. Like i say it seems fine but just concerned about the lubrication its getting. if any LOL.

You say you have never gotten it over 200? You need to be between 230 and 260 for the best power and performance. Warm it up a bit and you should get some good smoke then. It will run better too actually.

forget smoke. Its a sign but not always a true indication of how the motor is running. If your temps are ok and the mill is making good power then leave it alone.
