According to Savage-Central they are reporting the follwing--

"HPI has had reports of some problems with the backplate of the S-25 engine vibrating loose, which can cause the engine to not run properly and possibly damage the engine. Upon inspecting some of the engines, it looks like the torque setting for the screws that hold on the backplate were not tight enough from the manufacturer. "

Has anyone seen this peoblem on there truck?

Well when I first got my two savage 25's I removed the engine and loctited the backplate and rotostart screws before I did anything else. I did so to insure that I wouldn't experience any of those problems. HPI also started marking the bottom of the boxes with a red x to let everyone know they they'd already loctited things down at the factory.

Yup it happen to me... Not a fun thing. A little pin fell out and tore the inside of my motor up. But it didnt touch te pistion. SO take the time to take it apart and fix it. It will save you a week or more down time.

since it was a manufacture defect shouldnt they fix it for free? or am i missing something.

HPI has offered the option of sending the engine back for the fix but it seems pretty easy and rather then tie the truck up for a week or two I'll just do it myself. As far as any damage done to someones engine already due to this problem I would think HPI would make good on it.

Yea they replaced it for free. But I had to pay for shiping and handleing . It was a week down for me. I just had a rolling chassis for a week what a waste. So they do replace it for free since it is there fault. But that is all. Plus they send you some cool free stickers. You gotta love those stickers!!!

i never actualy had them fall out but i heard about the problem and decided i might as well fix it before anything did happen. its not a big deal it took me about 10-15 mins to loctite mine. they were not wobbley falling out loose, but they really were not quite as tight as they should have been.

backplate

hi, where is this back plate located? m just new to this. just bought my savage25 2days ago. thank you very much... :)

If you are a super noob i would take it to your local hobby shop and have them help you do it, but it is under the pull starter. To get to it take the engine out of the truck and unscrew the 4 screws holding the pull starter on. Carefully slide off the pull starter. Under it you will find 4 more screws those are what hold the back plate on. Those 4 screws were the ones that were not properly torqued at the factory and tend to loosen over time.
