Hello,
Right now I'm just starting off on paper and it wont be for a little while before i start making it so i figured i Would throw this post up for you all to put some suggestions in, but ill be making a Sand Rail, the chassis and roll cage is going to be all one piece and I'm going to be making it out of tubbing, the body is going to be lexan sheets that I will cut out, The arm's I'm not so sure on if I'm going to throw manufactured ones in or make my own from tubing, I'm leaning towards it being 1/8 Scale, if possible I'm going to try and make it water proof for the beach, but I'm also going to want it to be fast just to give you a clue all the cars I currently own are no slower then 40MPH, the rest and i do mean rest!!! right down to the bolts I should use in the car!!! Is going to be up to your suggestions, Thanks in Advanced,
Dragd:hehe::angry::hehe::angry::hehe::D

before you start building the cage and frame assembly, i would start with your driveline and build the truck around that. is this gonna be a 4wd or a 2wd rail? i would start there and then move to your suspension and A arms. so that way you know exactly how to build the cage so everything will bolt up. be sure to post WIP pics so we can follow the build. klown

Sorry I didnt mench in it before lmao but its going to be 2 wheel drive, and yea, like I said before right now I'm only sketching it out which will take a long time, and i will definatly TRY and keep you all posted, but as of right now it seems to have a very bad virus so I'm typing to every one off of my Playstation 3, and I've never really put pics onto a blog so I'm going to have to figure that out. but other wise I will definatly try and post pics lol, dragd.

Here is a pic for inspiration

I would try to keep it light and if you can go with a brushless system and lipo batteries, maybe a Castle Creations Monster Max ESC with motor running a big 40-50C rated 6S lipo, you might also look at the HPI 5th scale baja for its a-arms and tranny, and for a sand rail you gotta go with paddle tires out back and a ribbed tire up front, anyway just some ideas for ya...

that scale bulding in the back almost makes that sand rail look like a 1:1!!! lmfao. sharp lookin rig btw.

how are you gonna build the cage for the rail, u gonna use steel rod and a tig welder or somthing similar?

RC ADDICT hit it right on the nail, Brass tubing, and I know I said its going to be 2 wheel Drive, but I'm still not really sure, I plan on putting this style tire on http://rc4wdstore.com/2/product_inf...=1292&osCsid=66e3d93abfe9981c28ff2899e23e2cca If I make the car 4 wheel drive and put that style tire on it would it really make a difference in traction or do you guys think it would be a waist of power and steering traction? See I'm afraid if i make it 4 wheel drive the front tires might just cut a groove any where into the sand and take away steering traction in the wet sand, but I'm not sure if thats really a factor hear

OH, and one more thing, I'm not exactly sure on what all you guys use to connect the tubing together for cages and chassis but is solder alright, there is no way I can get my hands on welding tools cause I'm only 16, not unless my teacher in my mechanics class lets me use his hmmmmmmmm lmao, just curious on what you guys would suggest

Regular solder like you would use on wiring will not work at all. Safety Silv 45 is what I use on my tubing stuff along with MAP gas. You wont beable to do this without something like that or a welder if you use metal unless you can drill and tap the pieces together.

EDIT: I just saw you are using brass instead of steel so ignore my reply.

so, you guys think I should use Water soluble flux and either solid core or acid core solder with a bupane torch?

I don't think the building OR the rail is scale. I see headsets hanging from the roof and brake lines going to disc calipers.
It almost looks TOO good to be real.

or its a rolex build... look at how shiney!!!:smoke:

as far as the 4wd is concerned, you will most certainly loose some steering ability. but i would think that it would be most seen at full throw with the full push of the rig at speed. i am assuming this is gonna be a brushless truck? the 4wd would be awesome if it would "leap" off a standing start, intimidating none the less. i am looking forward to seeing this build come thru the stages of completion. :first_place:

That is a 1:1 rig that I found a pic of on the net and just posted for inspiration, LOL!!! as for the tires they are a great choice if you want to build a 10th scale rail but may look a little small on a 8th scale since they are a 2.2 tire, but you got the right idea. And being that you are 16 i think you could purchase a propane torch at a local hardware store to do all the joint soldering.

i doubt this will be possible.... you now have to be 18 and show id just to buy the little testors model car paint, among many other hobby items that are/were marketed toward kids. but I'm sure that it wouldnt be difficult to find someone that would make the purchase if it was needed.

lol, first off I'm in to airbrushing model car bodies because I Drag Race slot cars, so paint wouldnt be a problem, I probably have half the paint on the market and second, any type of toches or welders I could more then likely get my hands on it when I go back to school which I believe is next week, but my teacher is extremely cool, and he would probably say sure its practice.

LOL OK, since those tires are to small , how about a set of paddle tires that are made for the HPI 5th scale buggys or truck, I know there really made for a 5th scale truck and I'm making an 8th scale Rail but that could possible look sick couldnt it!!!!
