I've got 2 Savage X 4.6 and I'm entertaining the idea of getting a FLUX HP. Does anybody have both that could give me a performance comparison? How long do your batteries last etc etc...

I'm thinking it might be pretty awesome based on the clips and reviews but I'm concerned about battery cost, ESC lifespan and whatever other time bombs are in there.

Opinions?

thanks!

Dave

I can't speak on power comparison, I never owned a nitro savage but I do own a flux hp. But your battery run time comes down mostly to your capacity (mAh) and some to do with your how the rate of discharge (but mostly mAh). You can get some decent lower cost lipos for about 25-30 bucks a piece. For instance 5000 mah, 30-40C, 2s would be similar to what you might run; that may run 25-30 for a brand such as turnigy. But much more for some other brands (up to twice that much). With 2 batteries such as the ones mentioned above you should get 30-45 minute runtime.

Your components (motor, esc), during normal use (no water), should last you just fine. Even though they will get thrown around alot they should be fine.

Another big startup cost is a good lipo charger. Electric does have higher startup cost, but lower maintainance cost and lower maintainance overall.

I have an X 4.6 that i converted to an XL except for the drivetrain and engine.

THERE IS NO COMPARISON between the Flux HP and the X. I have both. I bought two 3s 5000mah 40c Lipos for 44 each and 2 Thunder AC6 chargers at 42 each. The chargers charge almost any battery type and are easy to use and for the money just plain awesome chargers. My battery life is about 35 to 45 minutes on a charge.

On 6s a standing double backflip is easy, pulling the wheels off the ground at any speed is easy. I keep running out of room no matter where i try to run it top speed and the best mph to date is 55 with a lot left. The reason there is no room is that there is so much torque once you can finally squeeze full throttle, the truck torque steers right so bad you have to let out or it will end badly.

Now all that being said, my ESC went up in flames after two months of use. Of those two months one was spent waiting on batteries and charger so in one month, roughly about 10 charges (runs) the ESC goes up in flames. I have sent it back to HPI (2 weeks this friday) and havent heard anything back but i assume either new parts or the old ones will show up here soon.

So short and sweet, the Flux makes the X look like a toy grade but I enjoy both for their advantages...power comparison, there really isnt one...the Flux will do anything the X can do bigger better faster....lol

all though i've never owned a savage, i'd have to say my hands go down to the brushless/lithium polymer! Lol. They have turned this hobby into something great!

Electric=A++++

As far as dudes esc issues, not sure what he's had going on. I think the only esc I have burned out was a traxxas velineon that went out for absolutely not reason. that's 1 out of about 13 though.

there was no issue broken civic. it burst into flames sitting still. there is another member on here that had it happen as well. sucks that its a castle mamba monster ESC....

Thanks for the ideas, what does one need to convert a Savage X to brushless/lipo?
