I've got three HPI T-15 small block based vehicles. I'm not captain maintenance, but I try my best to keep em clean, aro in them, etc.

I got a Savage a few months ago and have been using it off and on along with the cars in our stable. I've got about 13 tanks through it, which is about a half gallon.

I went to use it the other day and the rotostart wouldn't turn it. I thought it was flooded. Pulled the plug and no fuel and engine still wouldn't turn. WTF? So I pull the head off and on the button around the plug threads are these rusty looking powdered stalagtites! They wipe right off but again I'm thinking WTF?

I try to turn the engine with the rotostart with the head off and the piston starts pushing the sleeve out! I tap the sleeve back down and crank the engine again, tapping the sleeve again, wash, rinse, repeat about five times until the piston is free (with WD40 helping)...

I clean everything up, put the head back on, fire it up, and no problems. Plenty of power, smoke, etc.

What caused this? I did leave about a quarter tank of fuel in it from last Thursday (this was Sunday, so only three days) and I didn't put aro in it from Thursday cause I knew I would be using it this past weekend, but I do use aro when I am not going to use the truck for more than a week. I used to use 3-in-1 oil but I recently got a bottle of "real" aro from the lhs.

The sleeve wall looked nice, no scratches or rust, and the air filter has never come off while running? I'm just worried I hurt the engine.

Any comments welcome...

Thanks guys, your experience always helps...

EDIT: I recently started capping the stinger to prevent oil dripping on the workbench during storage, could this somehow trap moisture or something in the crankcase?

Any fuel that was left in the mill started to evaporate leaving behind moisture. This is what causes the rust particles to form. It is VERY important to use the ARO after running your R/C, even if it will be used again shortly after. I personally drain any leftover fuel from the tank, pull the glow plug and crank the mill upside down for a few seconds. Then add a few drops of ARO to the head & carb for storage. If your mill runs fine after your cleaning session, you may have gotten lucky. I would still pull it completely apart & cleanse thouroghly with WD40, inspecting the piston & sleave. Also check your crankcase bearings for any signs of rust..

i always after run mine after each run..i use marvel mystery oil for after run oil and it works great
