Hello, new to the forum... I've run about 3 gallons of gas through my t-maxx 2.5R since i've had it and now the only way i can get it to run for a while is to put the hsn out about 5 to 5 1/2 turns... even then it will make it through about half a tank of gas before it dies. After it dies i have to let it sit for about 5 min before it will start again, if i do try and start it right away it will just act like it wants to start but never does. After the 5 min it fires right up... The lsn needle is pretty much at factory setting. I have nearly torn the engine down completely to clean it, but didn't seem to help much. While it's running it runs great, but just acts like it needs a rest or something... i don't know. Any suggestions??? Thanks! Also, the glow plug is new and the air filter is clean.

You could be getting an airleak, compression loss, or just to lean.
Also check the LSN. Might be lean.

Sounds like it's overheating. Have you taken a temp reading?

It's almost two full turns richer than the factory setting on the hsn. I will try richening the lsn in the morning and see if that helps... my on-board temp gauge stopped working so i'll have to get that working and see, i would be surprised if it was over heating though with the hsn were it is. I'll post my results tomorrow... thanks!

Stock needle settings, fresh fuel, and check to see if the flywheel is easy to turn by had if it is your piston and sleeve is worn.

I think you are overheating. I learned the hard way that no matter how rich you run it, the stock head will still let the temps climb too high. I had the same exact problem with my maxx when it was stock. It would go the 1/2 tank or so and die, and you would have to let it sit and cool before you could start it again. Mine was overheating a little bit and getting to temps of around 270-280 when it was doing this, and wouldn't start until it got back down below 180 or 190, and then it would fire up and go through this cycle again. I put on a ACNCM head and this lowered the temps down to 220-230 when at it's hottest, and I ran a few tanks straight with it not stalling. And just to forewarn you, about 3/4 of a gallon after this happened, the motor gave up the ghost, so watch the temps, they will take their toll eventually.

Thanks everyone for the input, sorry for the delay! I was able to take it out this past weekend and get some good runs out of it. I'm using my buddies Revo cooling head for now until I get a better one, it seems to be helping. I'm planning on buying an engine rebuild kit along with this new cooling head so I can start over and hopefully avoid the heat issues... For now, I have to run it extremly rich and let it cool more often to get a little play out of it. Just a little sluggish and no shifting into second gear...

the head on the 2.5r is the same exact head as on the revo. Are you sure its not the stock silver one. if so change it the stock one is trash.

my suggestion, raytek temp gun, stock settings on the carb.

Check the P/S.If you can push the piston to the top of the sleeve (or past) it's time for a rebuild. If not clean the engine completely and seal good.

I always run top fuel or powermaster 20% (same stuff) I keep my needles semi rich, but not too much. I have a gallon through my 2.5r and have not lost an ounce of compression nor have I lost any performance.
