My savage seems to pick up temps real quick...I can bearly run it befor the temp gets close to 300 degrees. I richen it up and get the same results..I'll keep richening it till it wont even run anymore because its so rich. The only setting I havent tried richening is the low-end needle...I've never had to adjust the low end on any of my rc's..I noticed though the low end needle on my savage seems to be screwed in a good bit...should it be flush?

thanks

Is this a new Engine? I would check for air leaks in the tank, fuel lines, Carb assembly and backplate. Now the Needle setting, Have you tried the pinch test?We need more info on the conditions of running this. Temp gun? Temp in the area you are running at. The type fuel and plug. Let us know

Jon

It almost sounds like your lsn is too lean. But answer some of jon's questions and we can say more.

Yeah I want to give you some places to try out but we need more info to give you more of a helpful answer.

Yes this is a new engine...Iv only had the truck for about 3weeks...I've probally done 13-14 tanks through it....I run this gas called ritches brew(www.ritchsbrew.com), and I use fox blaster plugs..Iv been running at night so the outside temps where in the low 80's.
When it does run it runs like a bat out of hell!!

With that said I would check for leaks first. If it fails the same thing then I am sure they are failing for the same thing. Go check around and see if you do have air leaks.

From what I'm reading You should richen your lsn. When you lsn is lean it tends to heat your engine up fast and xtremely hot. Richen the lsn, your engine will run warmer because its still new. Make sure there is plenty of smoke when you mash the throttle all the way through the powerband.

Try the pinch test less then 3 sec too lean, 4-6 sec about right, more then 6 too rich. Hope this helps.

wait a minute. What percentage are you using?

20% nitro...

I just got back from my lhs and the guy there said to try richening the lsn.

I have noticed that theres not much smoke comeing out the pipe at full throttle..even when I richen it.
What do you mean by ''pinch test''? pinch the gas line?

thanks

If your LSN is too lean, you can easily hit 300 in a couple of minutes of just sitting at idle. It definately seems to be too lean on the LSN. Richen it up, and adjust your idle screw accordingly. Take temp checks at idle till it doesn't get above 210 or so. Then run it and readjust you HSN.

Also, when it's at running temp, do the pinch test on the fuel line. That's the test for the LSN setting. It should only run 3-4 seconds before it stops. More than that, lean it out a bit, less than that, richen it.

I'm having the same problems even though I ran it as-is in the HPI Challenge. How far from the carb should I pinch the fuel line?

Well......today I finally got time to go run my truck...I get out there and guess what happens???????striped the one way bearing!!!!! FOR THE SECOND TIME  :wedgie: ....so tonight I'm putting on a pullstart I ordered incase this did happen again  ....
So tomarrow Ill try what you guys said.

Thanks

you can pinch the fuel line anywhere, because it stops fuel movement so your engine will run on whats left in the carb only.

Just out of curiousity, have you ventilated the body? Or do you run without?

mostly without the body

I've cut all the windows out of the body

Then I tend to agree with the rest. Sounds like you are running a bit on the lean side. If your needles are set to what you feel is a really rich setting and, you are still having the problem, then look for an air leak somewhere in the fuel system. An air leak creates an artificially lean condition regardless of what you set the needles for and can lead to overheating.

Start it and just let it idle, or slowly just circle it around you and watch your temp. Don't throttle it up, just let it run slow. Keep checking the temps. If, after about half a tank, it's not going above 210 or close to that, pinch the fuel line and see how long it takes to shut off. 3 to 4 seconds is about right. If it cuts out sooner, it's too lean, later, it's too rich.
When your LSN seems correct, run the car. Make several WOT passes, and check the temp about every minute or two. That's when you adjust the HSN for running at it's peak without getting too hot.
