I’m getting back to finishing a vintage nitro hydroplane boat kit; looking for information regarding the position of the rudder; is it necessary to offset the rudder from the center line of the prop or can it be mounted directly behind the prop; pictures show both ways, does the prop turbulence inhibit the effectiveness of the rudder if mounted directly behind?

no as long as you have enough space to allow a clear path so rudder wont hit prop..
