I was talking to my good ole buddy Rolex today, and we were comparing the RTR with the kit version of the savage. Does anyone know what differnences are as far as parts and performance in the savage x ss kit and the RTR 4.6?

The Savage X is cheaper so people with there own electronics can put them in. It also has a few upgraded drivetrain parts I believe. And you get to build it.
 
Yea I know that its a kit and I get to built it and it's cheaper, I'm wondering about the actual parts that make the ss x different from the RTR 4.6 besides the fact that it's a kit.
 
That's what I forgot. No radio or receiver, so you don't end up paying for something you already have if you're already running other RCs. When I got mine, RTR, on day one I swapped out the electronics for the M11.
If you need the stock Rx and Tx, let me know.
 
OK Well I did some research and so far here's what I've discovered. The engine in the kit is called the k4.6 the engine in the rtr called F4.6. The carb on the kit model is 8.5 mm, it's only 7.5 on the RTR. Kit has steel spur, rtr has plastic. Kit has dogbones from the factor, RTR doesn't. Kit has stainless steel brake disks, the RTR has composite. I know theres more to it but this is what I found so far, and now I know that there is a pretty good bit of difference in materials and quality of parts on the kit compared to the RTR.
 
Definitely the kit. The only downfall is the radio (And sometimes an engine), but I'm pretty sure you will find a decent one at the price.
 
yea i'm not worried about the radio. I'm doing the kit for sure because the whole reason I'm getting the savage is because I want to build it from the ground up. And now that I'm finding out the materials that are only included in the kit, it's just icing on the cake.
 
I really wish I had known about the kit when I got mine. What a pleasure it is to know that EVERY single part is perfectly installed because YOU did it.
I've built airplanes and wood boats, and seeing them fly and float never ceases to please me.
 
Yea I built a 68 Chevy pickup and I took it all the way down to the two framerails and a crossmember and brought it back up while boxing the frame, custom trailing arms, the whole nine yards. Now I really know each bolt on the truck, and there's so many other people that I talk to who have done restorations and regret not building a custom from the frame up. And to get back to RC's, I learned so much about my maxx when I took it completely apart the first time and put it back together. From that day on, when I needed to adjust something, clean something, or change parts, I knew exactly how to get to it and the best way to go about doing it. Plus, I just love wrenching, and the kit will keep me busy a while. If I get a RTR I would have to get a second mortgage cuz I would want to build it as well which would require all aftermarket parts.
 
Well I found out that their are performance differences with the kit vs the RTR. The kit has an 8.f mm carb where the RTR only has a 7.5 mm, and their are several gears that are metal instead of plastic on the kit, stuff like that.
 
I know what you guys mean by putting the whole truck together. Weither i get a truck thats brand spanking new or used I ALWAYS take it it apart. I just like to see how everything is put together and how everything works. I think the building and taking a part is just as fun as the playing. I think after I get a job I am going to buy a savage xss just so i can build it/play with it/take it apart/clean it/build it/ etc......
 
Trust me, the quality of this Savage X SS kit is excellent compared to the T-maxx. I was thinking about getting a revo soon but this quality is so much better than any traxxas I've see.
 
I was wondering, but you would be suprised how many people replied with that answer. I mean cmon people, I may be dumb but I'm not stupid.
