if you can't tell then i will just say it, i am a newbie, i just traded an old gun for this savage 21, and i dumped a bunch of money into it, well trying to start it, i dont hear it turning over, it makes no noise like its trying to start or anything, i noticed when i got the truck that it has a brand new one way bearing for a pull starter, is that a hint that that is whats wrong, would it fit in place of the rotostart bearing, and what difficulty would it be....also, the rotostart shaft is loose, but still spins, i just need some help cus i am about to give up and sell it, but i dont wanna cus i have always wanted an rc truck, and i dont want to just give up, any help would be GREATLY appreciated..
thanks

thanks to everyone that has commented, it means a lot, I've always wanted an rc, but never had the funds, and this is the only way i can enjoy the hobbie is to buy a used one, and try to figure it out

make sure to prim the engine thats what happend to mine i didnt think it was turning over but it just wastn primed

ok i tried that, but you know that sound that the engine makes like its turning over...well it doesn't make that when i use the rotostart, but i checked and the engine has compression, so i think it may be something in the rotostart back plate area....but i dont know how to tell, the nearest hobby shop is an hour away...

HWY YA i know waht u mean. I personsally dont have the answer.. BUT i know if i take a drill and put in the Crankshaft and then stry to pull it over it just doesn't have that brr brr brr sound.... It just turns and no sound what so ever.. Its like swish swish!! Lol just for the other people here maybe u can answer but maybe its something with the roto thats what i think. Honestly if u dont get any answer here give HPI a call thell be able to help u out

are u useing a glow plug igniter? just asking cuz i didnt see one in the video. and if you are is it fully charged.

If it's just sittin and spinning, I'd recommend replacing the one-way. It's not all that hard. Once you get the motor out (or take the rear end off the truck, either way is effective), it's just 3 screws, pull the black rotostart plate off, and there it is.

could it be the gear inside it, or does it even have the gear, i actually have a one way bearing brand new, for a pull start savage 25, would that work?

You might be able to salvage the one-way if it isn't visibly damaged.

Soak it in a fair amount of brake parts cleaner for a few minutes, then swish it around and spray it with some more to get oil and gunk out of it. Then spray a good amount on the backplate to clean off the starter shaft. It should work if it isn't damaged.

i think it will be fixed, i had a new one way actually, but the old one would just free spin in my fingers, and was installed backwards by the previous owner, and a screw was missing, but there was no damage to the geras, atleast visibly, thanks for all your help...i am putting it together as i speak...

Hey all i now got a question When i use mt roto itll pull over but when i use a drill it doesn't. Just spins like Devins..y is that..

kinda the same prob i got now, my rotostart wont turn it over, it just locks up, should i try using a drill? or do i maybe have something tightened too much?

Trust me, don't use a drill without using a clutch. If your engine hydrolocks (floods), the drill could damage it. Even then, it won't spin the motor fast enough.

The rotostart backplate actually has two gears in it, to act as a gear reduction.

That aside, make sure your rotostart battery is fully charged. You may have to loosen the glow plug to lessen compression slightly, until it starts. Then tighten the plug back up just snug, and you should be ready to rip!

try getting gas in the engine dump a little bit in the glow plug but not to much just enough to get it primed then it should start picking up fule thats the problem it happend to mine
