Roto Start Lube?

Hi guys,

Silly newbie ?

Installing the Roto-Start on my Wasp .28 and need to know what kind if lube to use on the gear set.... light grease... 3 & 1... ect..

Any type of light gear grease would work fine. 3 in 1 is too thin and would eventually drip off or leak out. I use some 1:1 Hi-Temp Bearing Grease. You can scoop up a bucket for about $3 from your local auto parts store. A bucket will last you forever....

It would also be a good idea to check it 3-4 times a year, just to put on some new grease and make sure everything looks good.

BTW, make sure you use the stock savage one-way. Also be sure to take off the little black washer that is right next to the backplate on the Wasp. If you leave the washer on, it will create some binding on the gears when you install the rotostart.

Thanks Digital Liquid. I am glad you let me know about the washer. I almost put it back in. I bought a new roto-start case for the Wasp.28 and never
took the one of the .25 off. :shrug:

I got the Savage for X-mass but decided to do all the common mods before I
I even run it. Now my wife thinks I have lost my mind.

Prospector, that was no problem. It sounds like you are doing the same thing that I did. I bought hop-ups for my truck before I even bought the truck. I also did all the common mods and upgrades before she got broken-in.

Anyway, it looks like you got a nice list there. And yeah, you will definitely start to know your UPS, FedEx, & USPS carriers by their first name.

We all understand about the "wife". I think it is common for them to go through stages, at first she will not mind, 2nd stage is that she will complain about it, 3rd stage is that she will stop complaining and not even say anything about it. Right now, my wife is going into stage 3. LOL.

Prospector, looks like you are really enjoying your Savage. Got quite a start on a great machine! Only thing I have been able to do to mine is a pipe, dual brake, air filter and spider mod. I love mine. Been drooling over the Wasp, but it'll have to wait. Have to fix some of my other cars. Savage is all that is running right now. Wife told me she was taking it, if I didn't get hers running.

You guys are sick. I love it. My wife is pretty understanding. She wanted the first truck we got. Bought 5 last year. But if I had something coming every day she would lose her mind.
