I went to use the truck today and when I run the roto start it just spins and only grabs a little once in a while. Is this the oneway bearing? Just thought I would ask before I rip it apart.

yup , the one way it is , either needs to be cleaned or replaced , i have the same problems.

thats the fun part, i'm getting used to it now , almost everytime i went to bash i had to take it apart for one reason or another

well I'm starting abit , but there are still some things i dont know either. but i do love to wrench on it , keep learning everytime. and you stay out of trouble at the same time. :)

...

Love to work on my rigs more and more...cuz i tell myself that when I'm done wrenching...its time to go out and bash again!!!! OH YEAH!!

Maybe a little off topic but has anyone used or heard of Serpent brand one way bearing oil?? Sounds a bit odd that a particular oil could improve how the one way works.

Serpent one way lube

In my experience, Lubing the one way is not a great idea. I just clean it with Denatured Alcohol and then let it dry. In the pullstart or Rotostart, it gets oily regardless when you run it.

I took my engine out and then the roto start. But I think my engine is a little different then the 4.1. Mine is a 4.6 and the oneway is not on the shaft ? When I turn the shaft it seems to engage inside. Please help....lol

Are you rotating the shaft from the clutchbell side or from the rear where the one-way sits? Are you rotating the shaft with the one-way on?

If you are holding the shaft, it should turn the shaft. Now if your clutchbell spins, you have a clutch issue. It should not spin with the shaft. It should spin freely.

let us know what you find out.

my shaft has a fixed nut that goes into the rotostart ....not a oneway.when i turn the nut clockwise it will engage and it will spin freely when i turn it counter clockwise.

That's not a nut, it's the one way bearing. The hex is there so the drive can turn it. As the others have said, clean it with denatured alchohol and you should be good to go for a while. But while you have it off, check the shaft on the engine for wear.

Clean the shaft on the engine, also. If you just clean the bearing without doing the shaft, you'll be taking it apart again real soon.

hi guys, I found a thread on the 4.6 and it has an internal oneway bearing.I also found a good manual for the 4.6 on this site. Thanks for the help.:)
