RIP Dan Wheldon

I'm not a huge Indy car fan.....but I did watch the Indy 500 and remember watching Dan win. He was way to young at 33....but that is a risk that all race car drivers accept. I thought the 5 lap tribute was sobering. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family as they deal with this tragic day. May he rest in piece.

Truly sad indeed, he left behind two young sons as well. That was one of the worst wrecks I have ever seen and I have been watching racing a long time.

I've watched my share of racing over the years and that was the most horrific wreck I have ever seen.

Sad indeed. Those speeds make even a small piece of debris cause a car to go airborne.

Rest in peace, Dan. You'll be greatly missed.

With all the safety advancements and how common it is for drivers to walk away completely uninjured it is easy to forget how dangerous racing can still be. This is the reality of racing and no amount of regulation will ever be able to eliminate it.

Keep his family in your thoughts.

Eww thats sobering for me to hear! I watched the Daytona 500 when Dale Earnhardt was killed & that was bad enough for me.

Yeah, he left behind a beautiful family and he was only a year older then I....33!!

They've made huge advancements in Safety Technology in just the past decade and it doesn't change the laws of Physics!

May his Soul RIP!
