Over the weekend I was bashing and after I took a medium sized jump in the dirt my right rear wheel came flying off and the nut was lost. I removed and replaced that nut 2 times in the past so I figured that maybe the locking nylon insert was worn. I went to my LHS and bought 4 new HPI locking wheel nuts.

I installed a brand new nut on my right-rear axle and made sure that all four nuts were very tight. As per the HPI instruction manual I have the black nuts and axles on the right side of the vehicle (pipe side) and the silver nuts and axles on the left side of the vehicle (throttle linkage side). I tighten the nuts on both sides by rotating them towards the front of the truck (right side clockwise, left side counter-clock wise).

Today I took the truck out to a bashing area and after I took two fairly large jumps my right-rear tire came flying off again and the new nut is nowhere to be found. I do not know why the brand new nut came off but the hex inside my rim is now starting to show signs of rounding off due to running it with a loose axle nut.

Has anyone had problems with the right-rear nut coming off after jumps? I am not sure what to do about this.

are these nylon nuts? You may want to inspect that one axle.Look for any wear and tear. If not THREADLOCK THAT MOTHER!!.

The nuts are metal with nylon centers. I did not use loc-tite because the nuts with nylon (plastic) centers are supposed to be locking. The axle shaft looks fine.

Use locktite "blue" on them anyway. I had that happen to me once and it wreaked the rim and hex. Now any metal to metal I locktite. Some of the screws that go in to plastic I use finger nail polish.

You really need to snug down on wheel nuts. At least with my storm i had to have lock tite(blue). That should fix it.

The nylock nuts are only nylon for the last two or three threads. They lead with metal and end with nylon. A small bit of loctite will do the trick just fine. I did it on mine when I lost the first right rear wheel nut, and never lost another one.

I used some loctite on the axle and as I was tightening the nut the hex slipped. The hex inside of the rim was rounded off too much. I tried to remove the tire from the rim but I ripped it. Now I need a new rim and a new tire.

man it sounds like you guys have small nuts.poop when i bust) oops lose a nut.i useley can find my nuts because there 17mm.ya.....i know what your saying (He has big NuTs) :trashed:

Actually, at 17mm I was wondering how you manage to find them all the time. Magnifying glass in hand at all times? =devil

lol I keep a good grip on them with my right...i mean with red lock tite
