I originally posted this in the General section - should probably go in here.

My truck won't start. I can prime it but it won't turn over. Someone mentioned it may be the one way bearing. If I look down the head without the glow plug in and used the EZ Start, should the piston move up and down. If it is supposed to and it is not, would this indicate the one way bearing.

I am running out of ideas.

thanks,

The one way bearing isn't as much as a bearing as it is a sprag type drive clutch for the starter. engages the motor when the starter is turning and releases when motors speed exceeds that of starter..or starter stops. so yes, if your starter motor is turning but the motor is not, definately check the one way bearing. Since you have to pull the starter to get it, take a good look over the reduction gears in the starter as well for signs of damage.
If all looks good, make sure the OWB was installed properly. It may be fine and just installed backwards. The print that is on one side of the bearing should be installed facing the engine. if you pull the starter, see the print on the bearing, simply turn it around and put it back in and try again.

Good to know, I was not aware of the "print on the bearing" trick! Mentally filing this, hopefully to be retrieved when I need it... ;)

well, only applies to the traxxas OWB and 3.3. Other types might use different direction indicator as well as some engines turn the other direction.

The engine always turns clockwise when looking at it from the rear. So, that's the way you want it to turn with the bearing.

What exactly happens when you put the starter wand to the EZ start?

Is your EZ start working? Stupid question I know, but if it's not your one way, look to the EZ start.

I can tell you from experience that the EZ Start goes out really easy.

It's been a busy week and I haven't had a chance to take the engine off to check the one way bearing. I am hoping that is the fix. I'll let you all know what happens.

Thanks for the help.
